Welcome! I'm a little confused. It's Piano Roll where you see the velocity, and velocity is not a MIDI FX, it's just a part of the MIDI note properties. Not having a controller doesn't matter. MIDI FX are located in the MIDI tracks FX bin. Then again, when you want to use "normal" FX for your soft synths, it's preferred to use audio FX in the audio tracks FX bin.

Ok. I got distracted 'cause you wrote velocity instead of Velocity. I did not realise you were talking about a drum sampler, I thought you were talking about velocity readings. As velocity means how hard you hit the keyboard key or the pad, and using multisampled instruments, it defines which of the layered samples gets triggered. Maybe you should use the Plugin Manager to scan for VSTs to make sure SONAR sees all the installed VSTs.

I'm confused as well - what Midi Fx are you expecting see in the synth rack?? The synth rack holds synths, not Fx plugs - and yes, there is a Midi Plugin called "Velocity" which does what Kalle says and adjusts which samples are triggered depending on how "hard" a note is hit/played

heya, and thanks fro replying =] if you're talkin about the Synth Rack > Soft Synth > Plug-in Layouts > Manage Layouts... I did scan there i see a Velocity in the MIDI Effects (MFX) Plug-In Category, I added my vsti folder i had everything installed from when i was using FL Studio and All those showed up too. I figure some didn't register as they are distortion boxes and such and not actualy synths, though i would like to figure out how to use em later. I also don't see any other Velocity in any of the categories (ei; DX, VST, DXi, VSTi, MFX, DMO, Control Surfaces). Which is why i though that the (MFX) Cakewalk FX Velocity was the one I was looking for.... ok so I'm taking that it didn't come with Sonar, I have producer edition. How do I get it, or should I work with Session Drummer 2 (which did come with it) and call it a night. ? Kalle Rantaaho Ok. I got distracted 'cause you wrote velocity instead of Velocity. Velocity was a Project 5 synth. Nice little drum machine. Can't say for sure if it shipped with any product other than Project 5.

You can auditon sounds in either drumkit or mixer mode. In drumkit mode, left-click on the instrument pictures to audition the samples, right-click to change the preview instrument. In the mixer mode use the same clicks on the instrument images at the top of the mixer. The biggest difference between Session Drummer and Velocity is how you build the soundsets for each instrument. In Velocity, soundsets were built directly the Velocity GUI. In Session Drummer you need to use a text editor to build sfz files. You can use one sample per pad in Session Drummer by loading the wav into the pad but sfz files give you much more flexibility. Use the existing sfz files supplied by Cakewalk as a guide to creating your own.
