Silent install of Sonar X1 LE

The music department, within the school that I am IT support for, has recently purchased the Roland TRI-CAPTURE USB Audio Capture device, which comes with Sonar X1 LE software.

We (IT) use a Deployment system called Altiris to silently install (ie install to a PC without user interation) software to the windows XP and Windows 7 PCs, as the department have purchased 4 of these devices I want to use Altiris to deploy the software.  The PCs that are going to have the software installed are due to be replaced in the next year or so, so the software will have to be removed from the existing PCs and installed on the new PCs making it worthwhile to create these silent installs.

I have managed to determine that the installer uses the freely available InnoSetup (http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php) installer program, which I have been able to create silent installs of other vendors software, so I believe it should possible for this setup file.

I am aware that I can create an INF file which will contain the options taken during a (test) install using /SAVEINF="setup.inf" and that you can tell the setup.exe to utilise it by using /LOADINF="setup.inf". I am also aware that InnoSetup supports two silent install methods /SILENT and /VERYSILENT.  Therefore a silent install should be easy..  except it isn't..

I have created a Log file using the /LOG option and this shows the following message when run silently with or without the INF file "Failed to proceed to next wizard page; aborting."  when running the installer without using /SILENT but using the INF file the menu appears and wats for the user to click on Next.
I suspect that the click of the "next" button is not recorded in the inf file and this is causing the issue.

Can anyone help or advise ?

Details of the InnoSetup command line parameters can be found at [link=http://www.jrsoftware.org/ishelp/index.php?topic=setupcmdline]http://www.jrsoftware.org...php?topic=setupcmdline[/link]

Thanks

Cakewalk products can be installed on multiple machines under the same license, provided the software is used on only one machine at a time.
What does this mean in your scenario?
Just install Sonar X1 LE on the new machines when you get them. If you are prompted to register, use the registration code you already have, if one is even issued for LE.
    No ruby slippers.
    No song and dance.
And no need for third party hackerware and ghost installs to get around licensing issues.

    Rob,

    Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately your suggestions do not meet the requirements:

There are presently 10 PCs in the department and I would not expect the pupils to understand the licencing issues, I do not believe that the school would agree to the software installed on all the PCs in the department and I'm sure the council's Internal Audit department would not approve of the situation.

Re/installing the software manually on the PCs each time they are replaced would take up a lot of time and is not part of our standard practice, we deploy software from various software vendors (including Microsoft, AutoDesk, IBM, Adobe, Apple, etc) to the PCs in the school on a regular basis and do not often come across a scenario where recent software can not be silently installed/deployed (even older software [designed for Windows 9x] from Microsoft, Apple and other vendors supported the practice).

Getting the InnoSetup silent install working, as I know it does for other software vendors, appears to be the best way forward and failing that, it will have to be a costly (time and effort) manual install, which causes delay for the users and prevents myself and other support staff from concentrating on other priorities.

As the setup.exe was created using innosetup (ie there is no 'third party', only the installer Roland/Cakewalk have chosen for users to install the software with) this should be an easy task. There is no 'hackware' or 'Ghost installs' involved.  Silent installs / deployments  (also known as Administrative, Quiet, Unattended, Automated, Network or Remote installs ) of software are current industry standard practice, with the majority of software vendors (including JRSoftware that created InnoSetup) supporting the practice.   Microsoft themselves producing software to assist with enterprise deployment of Windows and application software (see Microsoft Deployment Toolset MDT at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=25175).

I resent the implication that I am trying to 'get around licencing issues' as this appears to indicate a view that the intention is to perform an illegal act of software piracy. I am not asking about licencing, I am not trying to ammend the installer or compromise the intellectual property in any way, shape or form.  I'm just trying to install the software in the most efficient and economical method for my organisation, using industry recognised best practice.

    Steven.
