The Clearing

Here's something a little different from me.  Simple: Piano and two guitar tracks.  I recorded this back in 2005 with my Godin acoustic / electric.

Very nice, grabbed me from the beginning. I may pull a little more low mid from that 1st guitar, but please don't get in the habit of taking mix advice from me. This gave me a Yes vibe.

Robby - Thanks.  I was thinking the same thing today about the guitar but wasn't sure - I think you're right.

Wow Geno.. This is wonderful. I felt a little Return to Forever on this.
Impeccably performed. And, the recording and production is astonishing.

Yeah, it's a little emasculating actually... That you would play guitar the way you do and have talent on the keys too. It's like trying to keep up with Scotty :-(

Thanks Tim!  I'm glad you mentioned Return to Forever - This song was inspired by the Chick Corea / Al DiMeola "Short Tales from the Black Forest".  Every since I heard that I wanted to do something like it using acoustic guitar and piano (minus their monster chops of course!).

    This is superb Gino.

Melodically, this pushed all of my buttons and had me hooked.

    Fantastic musicianship.

I think this would also sound good with the addition of drums and bass guitar.

    Excellent.

    Hey GENO
Love it!  Your performance is stellar. What a great space the verb added to the acoustic guitars. KUDOS!

Wonderful tune Geno, perfect for driving. Love the arrangement, great dynamics out of 3 instruments, really held my interest.

Blipp - Thank you!  Interesting suggestion about drums and bass.  Maybe I'll attempt that some day.

    Kev - Thanks!

Frank - Thank you - It IS morning music - I got inspired to write this one Sunday morning as the sun was peaking through the forest into the clearing that is our backyard.

Jamesg - Thanks - did you listen to this while driving?  I've got my iphone which I hook up to my car, but Soundclick doesn't link to my iphone the same way as on my PC.  Just curious if you got soundclick to work in your car somehow?

    James - Thanks!

Loving the percussive sound to the guitar. Sounds really nice. I would like a bit more from the bottom end. The bass from both piano and guitar is being lost here.

Geno, I haven't heard any of your stuff for awhile.  It's always a pleasure to listen to your music.  I think this performance and mix is a masterpiece.  IMHO

    Lynn - Thanks!

Polarbear - thank you.  Playing this live would be fun..

philz - thanks for all the nice comments

    Freddy - thank you

foxwolfen - thank you.  Interesting take on the bottom end - Robby and I thought there was too much of it from the guitar.

Warren -  thanks a lot.  I haven't posted much - if you haven't yet - check out my version of Song For America that I posted a couple weeks ago.  That was my latest bigger production.

    Hey, Geno,

This is really a fantastic instrumental piece with very tasty playing and a powerful, uplifting vibe!

I love how you were able to make the complexity of the melodies sound so simple as they fall perfectly into place in the crystal clear, perfect sounding mix.  I'm getting an early Ambrosia vibe from certain sections of this that I really like a lot.

    Excellent work, Geno!

Very nice ..... first tune of the day.... sun shining outside....and it's Friday....

    well played.

to my ears, the guitar was not as crisp as the piano, it had a lot of mid presence.... that is my only nit.
