XL Essential to X2a thoughts...

I took advantage of the $199 upgrade to X2a from XL Essentials...I really like the pro console strip , although I'm not sure I can hear a difference between the S type, N type and A type...in fact, I'm not sure there is any difference! lol.....I've toggled that section on and off, but can't any change, though I see the level needle jumping.

I get periodic crashes...SONAR is sitting idle and I will get a msg in Win 8 that it has to shut down. And also the good 'ol drop outs do continue on occasion with a measley two audio tracks , no fx and nothing else running and SONAR telling me I'm barely using CPU , memory or drive utilization.....Is there a 'crash log' I can send to Cakewalk to check the crashes out? My system is:

Custom built pc
Asus P7P55D mobo
Intel core i5 750 quad core
4 gigs DDR3 memory

I downloaded X2a update and now I've noticed frequent bugginess where I've solo'd a track but still hear other tracks and also times when my Microsoft wireless keyboard simply doesn't function in SONAR....check it in notepad or something and it works OK...

I need a good understanding of the HUGE amounts of places to adjust a tracks level....you've got a level fader in the track view,  a fader/knob in most FX and then using a buss , you have it there too...as I start adding in tracks , is there some kind of rule of thumb as far as when and where to adjust which of all these levels? Should I strive to keep levels well below 0 so that the end product full of many tracks and fx has more room to reach 0 db? ...This kinda messes with the mix ...turning stuff down just makes that part not loud enough in the mix, or maybe I need to turn my monitoring system up louder? What is a reference db level to mix at?

I have some other opinions, etc but want to start them in their own thread...thanks!

Use the faders. Keep things lower than you think they should be. Output to a master buss.

But keeping them lower effects the mix? S you're saying keep EVERYTHING lower? Doesn't that effect your perception of how the mix is going to sound?

Gain structure is a biggie. I would definitely do some research if you are having trouble getting your head around it. Well below 0 db is a good idea. You don't want your master buss to get anywhere near 0db and the sum of your tracks can add up pretty quick. There are lots of good Sonar X2 videos out from SWA and Groove 3 that can help narrow the learning curve. I hope you get your stability issues worked out soon.
