How to select a specified row for a SELECTED section only in PRV?

Hi All

I got stuck in a bit of a loop yesterday when trying to select a specified row of notes for a selected region only

Here is what I wanted to achieve

For the last half of a song I wanted to duplicate my SNARE row of notes onto a CLAP line in PRV - to add a clap for the last half of the song

I assumed I would be able to select the row of SNARE notes by clicking on the note list on the left hand side (which worked) and then select the time region I want selected, which I thought would highlight the row of SNARE hits for that time selection - with the intention of then just CTRL+Dragging the notes down

However, when I select the time region it selects ALL of the PRV notes - if I then click on the SNARE row it just selects the whole row of SNARE notes - not just the ones selected in the time region previously selected

The workaround is obviously just "drag selecting" the notes but this is a bit of a pain when changing notes over a large portion of the project

Is there an easier way I am missing?

What I've done in this situation is to simply highlight the notes you want to transpose and change their note # in the Event Filter in the Control Bar

You can easily zoom out so that more, if not all, of the prv is visible on 1 screen - I like to use Ctrl + left arrow for this

That's really poor. Of course it should work the way you assumed at start. Selecting, say, 20 bars, by lassooing is a real drag for a copy :o/.

That is kinda the problem - the pain is actually selecting the notes I want to copy - I can easily select the entire "row" of notes OR I can select all of the notes within a selection across the timeruler

There does not appear to be a way to mix the 2, like you can do with clips etc. in the track view

Even though there is a workaround (lassooing) this is not ideal and I do get the feeling I am missing something obvious to do this

Use the smart tool hold down ctrl and right mouse click each of the notes you want to copy or hold down right mouse and lasso the notes. This will highlight them. Then hold down ctrl+shift and left mouse click one of the notes and drag the notes to where you want them. Release left mouse click and the notes will be copied to the new position leaving the original notes in their original position.

I was caught out by this recently too. Clicking on the note on the PRV keyboard should really only select those notes in selected clips, not the whole track. That to me is the expected behavior. Maybe they could add a modifier key like alt or ctrl in order to do this.

there are a few ways you can do this...
in prv mode, click the note that corresponds to the snare then go to track view ctrl+click the midi clip and drag down into a new midi lane and trim the beginning of the clip

in track view, lock the clips data before the one you want to work with then open prv and select the snares with the note on the left and ctrl+drag them to the claps (it will only move the unlocked notes)

i guess there are a few options, but what you are trying to get to work does not exist afaik.

Even though there is a workaround (lassooing) this is not ideal and I do get the feeling I am missing something obvious to do this

As a work around you can also highlight the time line and then while holding down ctrl click the keyboard to deselect the other rows. I suggest everyone put in a feature request. Seems to be a no-brainer as to how it should work

edit..as swamptooth pointed out below this doesn't work..

problem there is that ctrl+clicking the rows you want to deselect selects them outside of the time selection - it acts like an inverse select.

yes you are absolutely right I didn't notice that in my little test.

edit...  lol if you shift click the unwanted rows it will then include the entire row and then you can ctrl click to deselect the rows not needed. a bit insane.
