Radius

Another from my "pending folder" that's got a remix and remaster on my new speakers.  Probably the hardest track for me i'd ever had to mix.

 Hope you enjoy.

That sound that comes in at 49 seconds that sounds like an energy weapon? Made me cringe a little :-/ I like the arpeggiated synth. I can see where something like this could present a mixing challenge, I think you did a good job though?

John, as usual, you've given us a sophisticated piece of music to enjoy.  This has your trademark sense of texture and dynamics that separate this from so many other pieces of music in this genre.  BTW, what kind of speakers did you get?  I just ordered a set of KRK rokit 8's, and I'm looking forward to using them for my next compilation of songs.

    All the best,

That sound at 49 seconds is actually a neptunian death phaser, so well-guessed Robby. :-)

I know it's not a genre you really like, so cheers for listenin Robby.   Pleased you thought the mix sounded good as it was a real pain.

Some really wild textures being juggled there, John, and very deftly I might add.  At points it feels like the whole thing is teetering on falling apart from the tension (please read that as a compliment, as that's how I mean it), and then it developes further and reunites.  Hard to explain.  I really enjoyed it.

Love the different rhythms that come in half way through.  Chalk full of great textures.  Really nice complex stuff going on.  Very enjoyable to listen to.  Well put together.

Many thanks Lynn. Appreciate your encouraging words.

The speakers i got are the "Akai RPM3"  They're not expensive or especially good, but much better than i had before for monitoring my mixes.  They can be a bit boomy at times so i blocked up the bass port ducts with foam, and i prefer them like that.

Your new speakers look great. hope they are good for you.

Love this John. The sawtooth(?) sound Robby mentioned sounded like it was behind me (listening through headphones as usual), in fact the whole mix has a massive space and 3-D feel. I envy you that ability.

Neptunian death phasers are actually legal here in the uk.  Probably cause they're very hard to come by. ;-)

Cheers for checking it out and commenting Grant. Pleased the mix sounds good to you.

I think you need to try your hand at some dubstep. It might take a few tries to nail the sound, but when you do, I think you might shake the planet. This song would lend itself well to it IMO. I do not know quite what to say about this song otherwise. It was very cool, had loads of texture, was progressive (to a fault perhaps), and generated a very rich soundscape. But it left me wanting more musically.

blip, this would be great on a Budwieser commercial, like the one with the frogs , on the Super Bowl a couple of years ago. Great sounds.

I guess I missed this one.  Very Blippish!  I'm going to find out what Dubstep is.  This one took awhile to get to the thingys.  Loves me some thingys in a Blipp song.   Have we heard this up here before?

@ foxwolfen: Hav'nt really listened to much dubstep to be honest and believe it or not, it's only been quite recently that i knew what it sounded like, even though i'd first heard the term years ago.  From what i have heard of it, i'm not really that struck on it, but did'nt altogether dislike it.  Maybe i need to check more of it out before i give a final opinion.

Shad, i sort of know where you're coming from when you said it left you wanting more as it really only slightly resolves itself at the end.  This was originally written as a CD opener, so it was meant to have a sort of un-finished conclusion, with the conclusion being with the following track. Not sure if that made sense or not.

It's not one of my personal faves of my tracks to be honest, but it was a very useful mixing excercise for my new monitors and as regard that i'm fairly happy with the outcome.

@ theguiyarplayer: Thanks John. Must admit i never thought of it in a bear commercial, but sounds like an interesting take on it. :-)

@ evadianepug: Cheers Warren.  You and your thingys. Wish i new what they were so i could put more in for you. :-)

No i don't think i've ever posted this track here before that i can remember.

@ notnat: Thanks Frank:  Yep it does take it's time to get going, but glad it finally grabbed you in the end. :-)
