Seeking help for specific how to. New user seeking knowledgable users for answers
I want someone I can call. I am new at the X2a Producer and am on my first self recording trying to get a finished project. Does anyone have the time and knowledge to chat with me on the phone - it is so much easier and quicker than the forums? Willing to share files of what I'm working on.

Ther are lots of people on here willing to help you, even phone you, but I would not put your number up here. Send it by PM if someone offers to help.

Sorry if I was short there, just wanted to post that quickly. I know of several people on here who would offer you help over the phone for free. There are some very knowledgeable and helpful people on here. I think it might be a good idea to edit your post to remove the number, and if someone offers, you can Private Message them your number. Someone might phone you to sell you a kitchen, if you're not careful. You may not need a call - can you post a few of your queries? I live in the UK, so phoning isn't really an option.

I have all the tutorials. I have spent hours with them. Sometimes I just want to stop all the tutts and get something done. It would be nice to get a pointer without spending hours and days doing something an experienced user would do in a few moments. There is so much to know. Giving it my best I realized there must be someone willing to get me through what I find as minor roadblocks. I think this software has all the ability to do what I want. My creativity just goes downhill because of needed knowledge and experience. My friends all use Pro Tools. I think I'm on to the right software here. At least I think i am. My system is up and running fine. I use a Focusrite Liquid 56 interface. It serves my needs. My prob is jumping into this software. As I have said - I have spend hours going through the tuts.

Unfortunately there probably isn't a really easy shortcut. Even on the phone or in person you'll still have an awful lot to take in. The best thing to do is work in stages rather than try and learn the whole program in one go. All of the experienced users will have been where you are at some point. I know I was and I certainly didn't get it all in one go either. If you post up specific questions in separate posts you'll get plenty of help that way - best thing is it is free. There's also plenty of freebie videos out there. Check my youtube page (link in my sig), Cake TV has some bite sized videos, and there's plenty more out there too. Having said that I'm sure someone will help you out over the phone if you want but I'm not entirely convinced that's necessarily the best way.each to their own though. If you really want to go that route have you thought about remote help although you'd obviously need to trust the person helping. That might be better as it will allow the helper to actually show you how to do it rather than trying to explain it via a phone. I would be up for that but I have some deadlines to hit this week and I already get too distracted by being on here. Perhaps in a couple of weeks if you still want help though.

I'm with FastBikerBoy. Even though there is will to help you, it might be good to somehow clarify the things you find problematic. It takes some "courage" ;o) to phone a person if there's a chance the conversation starts with something like " Ok, now, how can I make my recordings sound professional?" :o) However you work, it takes a year or so to get a proper understanding of things, and many years more learning more details.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I agree with FBB. There is no easy shortcut. The program is so capable of doing so many things that I have had one or another version now for over 5 years, recorded and produced a bunch of songs (see my soundclick site for proof) and I still learn things about this program on a daily basis that I did not know previously. Take it one day and one step at a time. Start off with the basics. On day one you may not want to start off with time stretching a clip into a time change and aligning the snap to grid across the time/space continuum...... (wink wink) Start off with a simple recording of audio or midi.... then as you learn and somewhat master that lesson, move to the next thing you NEED to accomplish. By doing a bunch of baby steps over a number of months, you can become quite proficient in a short time. Of course, how fast you learn depends on the time you are willing and able to invest. Use this and the SONGS forum as your sounding board and get feedback on the work you are doing. People will let you know if you are on the right track, and point you in a better direction if you're not. A phone call might help if it's something really detailed and intricate and you have some basics already, but generally, a phone call is not the answer. Post one precise question in a thread and interact with the folks who answer..... besides, doing it that way kinda forces you to dig in and discover things and that's really how you learn because as you poke around trying things you WILL discover other things that you didn't even know existed let alone how to ask about them. Have fun.... that's my 2 cents.

O.K Thanks people. The first thing I wanted to do was make my first bass note line up with the guitar and vocal timing. I came in a bit late. I felt there must be a way to easily do this rather than create a track and record one note. I just want to stretch that first note of the bass guitar. My guess is I need to marker the duration of that first note and then stretch it. Never have done this. I know its possible. I have streched the clip but then undid that since it affected the whole track.

If I'm understanding you correctly you mean you want to move the first bass note? The easiest way to do that is............. 1. Zoom in on the track so you can easily see the wave form of the note you want to move. 2. Split the clip at the end of the note so you have one small clip with the single note in it. (hold the alt key down and left click at the point you want to split - you may need to adjust snap settings for resolution and snap to zero audio crossing point) 3. Nudge or click drag the note to the required position. If it's a more complicated bass line then Audiosnap may be needed but for just one note the above should suffice. Fire away with any more questions if you need
