Sonar X2 "Profiles"

I run Sonar X2 on my laptop and I often use different gear depending on whether or not I am away from my studio or in my studio.

Does Sonar X2 support any kind of command line switches where you can load an .ini file or some other configuration file depending on what is currently hooked up? Say something like a MIDI only configuration with a 4 port MIDI controller only or a USB audio interface only? That way if I open a project file I don't always have to re configure my inputs and outputs depending on what is currently hooked up to my machine.

that would be VERY useful, but i can't say I know if it does or not...
Sounds like a feature request to me! :D

You can do different profiles with different user accounts. I have one account for my studio setup and another for stage. Each has totally different hardware.  Each user account keeps its own hardware profile. I keep the projects folder set to a common folder, as well as the vst plugs.  It works well for me.

Very interesting... I like that. Along with the thread about google crashing Sonar. In that thread someone replied that they have a separate account just for Sonar usage where they turn off all unnecessary applications and services... Seems like a great idea.

I am not sure that Windows Services are local to the user.

In the Registry, all of the Services are under Local Machine, which is common to all users.

miker42007 - you might add to your posts a signature line that highlights some of your gear. Helps us to make suggestions.

I also have a laptop that is often tethered to a bunch of stuff in my studio setting and then when I'm disconnected and mobile with my laptop I have a slimmed down set of stuff. I've come up with some techniques, but it's not perfect.

I recognize what you're asking about and am interested to read comments on it.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Yes, you are correct, but the Sonar hardware profiles stay unique to each user account.  Also, you can keep some startup files from opening automatically in the user accounts. I keep my Sonar accounts very clean - without anti virus even, and use a default account for everyday tasks.  To date, it has been a great solution for sharing my laptop between stage and studio.

Thanks for all the great answers. Looks like user profiles are the way to go. Maybe Cakewalk could explore adding in the command line switch at some point. That would be way cool.
