Peavey StudioMix
Dear community, I am still working with an older version of Cakewalk Pro. I recently got a new PC and want to update my software to something more up-to-date. Maybe MC6. So far I found in this forum that I should be able to open my *.WRK files. But is my Peavey StudioMix supported? I found hints that it is supported in Sonar (at least some older versions), but what about MC6? Thanks, Diddie

Welcome to the forum!
My guess is that because it seems PSM uses only traditional MIDI connection, it can be used with MC6 or any other DAW. But that's a guess.
Then again, if there's some old technology involved (I don't know what it could be, 'cause MIDI-system is the same) which makes it unusable with MC, then I assume you can't use it with any DAW, so you can throw it away :o/

When I moved from the old cakewalk Pro 8 (in my case) to the newer MC series, I found that many things had changed. The old things and ways I used to use were outdated. New things were in MC that were not in the pro series.
I started to learn the new stuff and have never wanted to go back to the pro series way of working.
As far as "will the PSM work in MC? I have no clue. Since it is a midi device and it worked in the pro series it seems reasonable that it might work in the newer DAW's.
If no one here has a definitive answer, email support and ask them what, if any of the cake products would support it.
In the old Pro series I used a mixer and a few other things that were outboard hardware. In MC I only use a quality interface (less cost then a mixer) and all my recording is done direct input (mic & guitars) or midi in to the interface. Have a listen to the music I record in this manner on my web site.

It's not whether MC 6 supports the StudioMix, it's whether the StudioMix has updated drivers that will let it talk to your new computer.
If the computer 'sees' the Peavey, MC 6 will, too.
Theoretically.

Hi all,
the StudioMix has just a MIDI connection but uses some kind of special protocoll.
It was supposed to work with Cakewalk (it has cakewalk printed on it).
I found a message here saying that Sonar has a checkbox in some menu to activate StudioMix.
I hope someone who reads this message has seen such a menu entry in MC.

What exactly is the StudioMix? A MIDI device? An audio interface? Both?
I didn't see anything about StudioMix on Peavey's web site.

Yes, that´s it. It provides transport controls and faders (motorized, cool).
I found the info that in older Sonar versions you have to activate it in the options menue under "control surfaces".
Does MC6 provide support for control surfaces? Can someone have a look in the options.

I don't have MC 6, but all my previous Cakewalk software (MC 2003, MC Pro 24 and SONAR Home Studio 6) have control surface support.
Someone should be along soon to confirm.

I meant to check last night but didn't get home from band practice until after my bedtime.  However, if you click on the sticky above made by Samara you'll see a pdf document link at the bottom of her post which gives a comparison chart of features for MC6 vs. Sonar X1 Producer, Studio and Essentials. Hi all, Cakewalk support was not very helpful. First answer was useless and in the second answer they said it should be working but they cannot tell exactly because they cannot test it. I ended up purchasing Sonar X1 Essential (for the price of MC6). The StudioMix controller is already working there. That comparison chart was very helpful. So I guess if StudioMix works in my X1 it should also work in MC6. Best wishes, Diddie

Glad you got it working with X1 essentials.
Unless you already have MC6, I would not worry with it because X1e has more capability.
