And so after over 2 years....
...working on my MacBook Pro's tiny screen, my wife surprised me w/ this - 24" Widescreen HD - this afternoon. Now all that's missing is the Apple DVI adapter which I've just ordered. Man, I can't wait to see Logic's mixer on that screen! Did I mention I adore that woman? :P

Yes, very nice. You have an awesome wife :) And like you, I'm lucky to have an awesome wife too :) And my studio layout is very similar to yours yet it's more than enough for my needs. I just recently added a greenscreen area and will start getting more into video production. My wife is also a very good photographer, she's had various photos published by news press and local TV stations.

Rain, that is awesome. What is the resolution? I don't know if this will become a problem for you but... at the first sign of new headaches or neck aches, lower that monitor so that you do not have to look up at it. If you aren't careful you may find yourself 'craning' your neck when you're really into working on a project (even if you don't really need to, it is a natural thing to do). If you do that you can get cervical spine damage before you know it. You may be doing it for 10 hours or longer, day after day. I learned that the hard way I let myself get in a bad habit and didn't know it was going to hurt me, now the damage is done. I was using bifocals and they made me crane my neck ever worse. I was using a similar desk, smaller monitor though Maybe with a monitor that size you can train yourself to never lean forward. Anyway, what a nice gift! You better never forget a birthday or anniversary, laff! I'd take a hint from her when trying to buy a gift for her... she is practical. Forget the jewelry etc and get her practical gifts too (no, not an iron or vacuum cleaner, ). I've found that my wife likes a spa day or 2 hr massage better than anything, a weekend at a spa with both of us is what she likes best. You really have a good wife, she cares about what you do, that is really special. Thanks for sharing, you made my day. Julien

Thanks guys. :) Julien - 1920x1080. And yeah, that's something I realized the minute I placed it on the shelf. Made that mistake once, I'm so not going there again. As for gifts, unfortunately, I'd have to borrow money from her to buy her presents. I had to quit my day job when we went on tour and I can't legally work here in the US w/ my current visa.

Awesome monitor... I am jealous! Take her on a picnic. I am guessing but I would be willing to bet that she would consider that to be a really awesome gift. Get some wine, cheese, pastrami, good stuff. A basket, a nice blanket or ground cloth and head up to the Bryce Canyon or Pink Coral Sand Dunes State Park (both are incredible), or Lake Mead for a day trip. Then again you guys might like Ventura better, there are SO many great places to visit near you. She is in love with you and time with you will be the best gift you can give her. Wimmen are a mystery but only when you don't realize that they are nothing like guys, trust me on this. The best gifts for your girl don't cost a thing.

See, it'd be hard to surprise her because she's the one driving (though I intend to finally get my license this year). And these days, w/ her schedule of 8-10 shows a week, on the days off, she usually just want to stay quiet. But I do try to take good care of her and to make sure that she never has to worry about anything around the house. I guess I'm the housewife...

Yep. The plan is to move the laptop out of the way - I'll probably get one of those little laptop cart which I could place on my left. I had also planed on getting a full-size Apple Keyboard. I'm hoping to have as little on my desk as possible. Even the compressors, preamp and little mixer which are currently under the shelf will probably be moved somewhere else. BTW - Sorry for all the single paragraphs today - I can't post using Safari and FF, well, FF sucks.

Another suggestion (of which I'll add a pic when possible - I'm having some internet issues with a tech coming out tomorrow), is to get a clamp on monitor holder so that you can position it whereever you want and even turn it if that's what you need. I love mine plus it gives you room for stuff under that monitor like pens and notepads. [Edit: There are many to choose from like the one below.]

Yep, the display could be mounted (it's VESA compliant) - though I don't know what I'd mount it onto and since I don't really need room for other things or to move it out of the way. One the laptop is out of the way, I should be ok.

I only wanted more room under mine but now I find myself putting it into all sorts of different tilts and rotations depending on what I'm working on. I wouldn't be without it anymore! Reminds me of when we had one of the first microwaves and my Mom said she didn't see any use for it - until she started using it - lol!

I'm not sure I'd have room for it, honestly. I've worked w/ a 21 for a few years and found it okay most of the time. For a while, I've considered getting one of those iMacs and I thought the 27" was as big as I'd go, probably a bit too big for my needs actually. 24 seemed to be the right number for my work space.

I finally hooked it up. DUDE!! That's like 27 mixer channels in tabbed view!!! 30 in mixer view w/ rooms for tons of inserts and sends. :P BTW, I'm kinda glad that I didn't pay the extra for super fast-shipping for my adapter. I would have received it, uh, today...
