No Sound after working for weeks

Hello,

I'm wondering why i can not get any sound from my headphones (no monitors yet) even though everything worked fine last week.
Soundcard is working, but i can't hear anything through phones. Phones are working too (checked).
Something must have gone awry when i unplugged my USB soundcard to take notebook on the road for a few days.
i get home, plug in and now no sound.
Can anyone suggest a possible solution?

Thank you!

did you re-profile your sound card in Sonar? If you unplug your sound card(audio interface) and then start your PC without it, you may need to re-profile the sound card in Sonar again. That is normal operation. Sonar doesn't save settings, it just reads what is there at that point in time

So your fix is very very easy. Just set up your sound card back in Sonar and all will be well again.

Thank you, CJ.

To re-set up soundcard i go to 'control panel' in my laptop or go right to 'options' in Sonar?
sorry for my inexcusable lack of geek finesse.

You should be able to press p in sonar To open preferences. Check your devices. Are they there? What mode are you using.. Asio?

It's possible you've been bit by the "all sudden my plug goes to zero bug". I've had plugs just magically turn down to zero with no reason to explain it.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

If your sound card is set up properly and we can only take your word on it, then your signal chain is flawed. Make sure your tracks go to your master bus and your master bus goes to your Main Outs 1/2

So... eliminate Sonar. Can you listen to youtube through your interface? Volume nob isn't at 0 is it?

Also, lots of people sometimes accidentally mute tracks or clips by accident. Muting the master bus could mess you up. Or sending the master bus to an out that isn't routed to headphones or stereo.

I suppose at a computer level, it is possible to disable your USB bus. That could make it so the interface doesn't work, but then the interface wouldn't show up in Sonar and you say it does.

Hmmm. Those are my ideas for now. Good luck!!

Also, many years ago I learned the hard way that if I start Sonar, [or my other DAW], before I remember to turn on my Audio & MIDI interfaces, a message will usually pop up about them missing.

If I don't correct it then, I have to go into preferences and re-assign them just like you mentioned here:

...Preferences>driver settings>Playback timing master ......was set to 'none'...i reset to my soundcard...

So always have them on first, as Sonar scans to look for them at start up.

Thank you.  From now on i won't even turn my pc on unless soundcard (via USB), is up and running, plugged in and full of red and green lights.

And don't forget to use the same USB port ( USB buss? ) ,,, this too seems to disable the interface. It seems to be happy using the one that was used for the driver install.
I find it's not a problem if I boot the computer and then turn on the interface, but I always turn it on before I open Sonar.

Yes - a good point about the USB. If you were to plug it into a different USB port, for any reason at all, the computer would see it as a 'new device', and would search for or ask for the driver to be installed again. So best to consistently use the same port.
...........................................................................................
I too also turn the computer on first, then the Audio/MIDI interfaces, then start Sonar after everything is on and settled down after a minute or so, then finally my speakers.

The reason is that with my Audio Interface, which is a Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2 mixer, that there are a few visual spikes that show up & peak on the mixer meters during Windows start up, and are even quite loud if I happen to have the speakers on first.
