The Maag is excellent, but before you go plunking down your hard-earned cash, you may want to compare it with this:

    http://code.google.com/p/lkjb-plugins/

It's a free clone of the Maag EQ.  Compare for yourself and decide if the Maag is really worth it.

    Eddie,

You just saved me $89!!!  That's an impressive freebie...put it on a track, compared it to my API, REDD, SSL, blah blah blah...
It does an excellent job, and the Air Band is nice (even though it isn't called that here)
The interface on the MAAG is better..but that's not at ALL what I care about..

For free...it's good enough for me..

    @Carl,

I posted a thread a while back about the DDMF 6144...it's an impressive clone of the RND 5033 for $39...

These guys are doing some great work...and WE benefit from it...hope they keep it up!

    PEACE!

Hey, glad to help ... while I don't think the clone exactly duplicates the real Maag, in a mix I kinda doubt that the average listener would notice the difference.

Between good freebies like this, the free/cheap Sonimus and OverTone EQs, and the ProChannel / Sonitus stuff, there's not much reason to shell out the big bucks for EQ plugins.  But that new DMG does look pretty cool ... :-)

    Cheers,

The lkjb version of the Maag EQ is really impressive. But when I was able to purchase the version from Plugin Alliance for $99 this past winter I leapt at it. I used to use the hardware, and I think the Maag plugin is a little truer to the hardware - although that's based on memory - which is notoriously bad for such subtle audible stuff!

I still have the freebie in the plug-in list. It is different, but I don't think it is better or worse, just different. When I think about it I often audition both versions, but sometimes I just use the Maag version.

It is not unlike the SPL Transient Designer and the Cakewalk Transient Shaper. I can do some things with each that I can not do with the other. Two cool tools - definitely different, but both are quite cool.

No, not "exactly", but then again, the Maag EQ is not an "Exact" clone of the Hardware...

The Redline EQ is pretty kewl as well...it does 5 consoles...at $149...
and I'm definitely getting the Redline Reverb...I've done side by sides
with Lexicon LXP, Breverb, Breeze, CSR, IR-L, PS, and a bunch of others...
and Redline sounds the most like High Dollar Hardware (IMHO)...LXP is a VERY Close second...
it's warm and lush with great tails and lot's of usable presets "right out of the gate"

DMG's EQuilibrium is also a kewl looking EQ...I must admit...

    Too many toys...LOL

the good things on the magg are the extreme (lows and air band) and i succed of making it with the waves api (strange but i match with the vst analyser the same EXACT curves and saved those as presets ...)

the thing that bother's me the most is the protection scheme and i want to avoid the most as possible multiple brands and protection stuff ...

gonna check the portico clone ...fun ...

Well, I bit.  And I must say there's a new "colorful" sheriff in town (not unlike Cleavon Little in Blazing Saddles).  The Harrison 32C and Trident A-Range have been my go to EQs for quite a while when I want warm and colorful...which is most of the time.  But the MAAG has kicked them (slightly) to the curb.  Vocal, Acoustic Guitar, Piano, etc...yowza!  Of course I'll still be reaching for my FabFilter ProQ for surgical needs.  But this is one impressive "make it better" EQ.

Also thanks for the freebie Eddie TX. I've been trying to stay away from the freebies. not because of how they sound, but a few months ago I was having corrupt project issues with X1 & X2 that took several months to track down to being an old freebie that I used for years.

I bit too on the PA version. So far I haven't found anything it's not suited for. I tried the Bass amp preset on a synth bass part and was really impressed. I think I'll be using it more often than Helios 69 or Harrison 32c for that task
