Can't inport video files on some projects - Sonar crashes and closes.

Hi,

This problem has ruined my day.
Was trying to finish some soundtracks for some short ad films but sonar closes as soon as I select the video file I intend to inport. I don't even need to double click...just by selecting the file (a normal AVI file I was that I have imported normally until yesterday) Sonar X2 PE 64 crashes and closes without any warning).

Any help?

regards,
joni

Are you able to open the file with some other program, outside of Sonar?

And, are you able to open any prior projects that had video?

Lastly, do you have any antivirus software running?

    Hi Robert,

Yes. It's a a file that I open in vegas and even Sonar in another projects. It's just on some projects. I suspect some plugin is causing this.
I normally render all the video files to AVI (with sony vegas pro 12) and sonar handles them fine. But not this one on this specific project.
The only think I have installed lately was Komplete Ultimate 9.
These projects giving me problems all have at least an instance of Kontakt 5. Maybe I should try to safe load the projects excluding Kontakt...

And NO, no antivirus on this daw.

    regards,

    That's a good idea.

You could also hit 'E' and bypass all effects at once, just to see what happens.  If it still has an issue, than perhaps it's not the plugins.  Just a quick way to find out if it worth the bother to deal with individual plugs.

    Good idea. Will try that.

Forgot to mention that, now, some specific projects also randomly freeze when opening...
    This is so annoying.

    thanks

I think loading of some plugs can make the project hesitate or even white out for a bit.

Do those projects end up opening up after a while, or do they just never open at all?

Hey Joni, I had ridiculous video problems until I updated my codecs. http://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm If you get the 64 bit and the mega you'll be covered for all video file types in both 32 bit and 64 bit Sonar. Should fix your problems and make Sonar run a lot smoother for video.

I have never had an issue with Kontakt or any NI stuff messing around with video in Sonar (for what its worth)

What have you got loaded into Kontakt?

I have found that it is the video files them selves that crash sonar. Not plugins!
Now, Sonar crashes when I import video into projects or freezes and crashes when I open a project that already contais a video in it (projects that used to open just fine until a couple of days ago).
I need to solve this asap as I score to film on a daily basis.
I have contact cakewalk's support, sent them an email 2 days ago, and still no reply.
Today I sent them a crash report directly from Sonar...waiting.

    regards
