The Making of John Mayer's 'Born & Raised' Album Artwork . . .

David A. Smith is a traditional sign-writer/designer specialising in high-quality ornamental hand-crafted reverse glass signs and decorative silvered and gilded mirrors. David recently produced a wonderful turn-of-the-century, trade-card styled album cover for popular American singer/songwriter John Mayer.
This film captures the 'Behind The Scenes' creation of the 'Born & Raised' and 'Queen of California' artwork, as well as 2 unique reverse glass panels, hand-crafted in England by David A. Smith.

Being a graphic artist myself I found this film and David's artwork to be brilliant.

COME ON PEOPLE!   I know it's John Mayer but, give this film a look. It's the incredible work of David Smith.  Skip John and get to the meat and potatoes at 4:05, or maybe I'm the only one who finds this interesting.

     I know it's John Mayer

I actually like John and his music.

I've always been into artwork but couldn't even trace a stick figure if I tried.
Definitely nice album artwork and it seems like they used money making techniques too get that look.

I didn't watch the whole 20 min video but did flip through it.
    Thanks.

Thanks Kev, as a 'should have been but never really was' graphic artist and former long-time signmaker I shall enjoy this.

I read a interview with J.M. in Rolling Stone a few years back and found it so childish that I discontinued my subscription and my awareness of J.M. all at the same time.

Got a link to the visual artist's website?

I've seen a lot of Czechoslovakian *reverse* glass "folk" paintings and find the visual effect remarkable.

    best regards,
    mike

Just finished watching it. That was extraordinary, and really heartening to see incredible skills like that being recognized and utilised.

What I took away was what a true artist who is dedicated to his craft and will settle for nothing less than the absolute best can produce.

David Smith, that is...not that ego maniacal, middle brow, pretentious, nitwit, John Mayer.
