emt 140 reverb in Sonar...card?

I'm thinking of adding the EMT 140 plug in to process recorded audio clips only. Would I still need an accelerator card ?  is it possible to use the plug in without  an expensive accelerator ? I guess they may only be required for live recording?

If you are refering to the UAD emulation of the EMT 140 reverb...then you need the so called "accelerator card" to run it regardless of its application.  All UAD plug-ins require the card since they are written specifically to run on the SHARC processors on those cards.

It might be argued that the hardware just ends up being a very expensive dongle for the software...being as how current multi-core machines are probably more capabable than even the most recent UAD accelerator iterations.  But, it would require that UAD and their partners port their plugs to the x86 architecture to break that dependency.

That's not likely to happen any time soon.

Are you possibly refering to an EMT 140 emulation that isn't from UAD?

You might just try the convolution reverb and some free IR's. That may work very well for just processing clips.

Thanks for resolving this issue ..I didn't get much help from the company apart from referral to their web site so this has been a great help.
Yes I was impressed about the reviews for the  EMT140 and was about to purchase the plug in till I found about the required card so as I only process clips ......not worth the big outlay but am looking for a top Plate reverb plug in with similar properties to the EMT 140 ?
