Looking for Mastering Engineer
I didn't know where to post this, so please forgive me if this is wrong. I am looking for a mastering engineer to not only master my tracks but to provide honest & constructive feedback if there are problems with my mixes - before moving forward. I'm looking for a PARTNER to help me finish this project. We have a single ready to go now, and will have a 10 song CD. I have had this song mastered and am not happy with it, and cannot get a straight answer as to what is going on with the mix that would make the song sound brittle and fatiguing. I would ask that you would listen to the mastered and unmastered version that I have currently to see if you can point out any anomalies. I just can't get a damn straight answer from anyone - like I'm trying to steal trade secrets or something - when all I'm trying to do is get a GRADE A product out the door. I mix on JBL LSR4328P Monitors in a tuned room and am not a noob. The mixes sound great here. I own a project recording studio, and if this goes well, you will be my go-to engineer for my clients. I am looking for the final polish on ,my mixes, analog mastering would be great, and I want the songs to sound big and punchy - with good bottom end and clarity. I am looking, for a complete album project, to spend no more than $500. I know you're all laughing now, but we ARE on a budget. We cannot afford Bob Katz, or else I would be writing him right now, as much as I would like to. Also, I'm not playing the loudness wars. I want first and foremost these songs to sound beautiful and dynamic. That's paramount. So if there is anyone here that wants a band on the rise on their resume, this is your opportunity. We are here: facebook.com/alicesweetalice, and reverbnation.com/alicesweetalice Thank you for reading.

The best way to get feedback on your mix is to post it in the song forum and ask for feedback on the mix. I love to mix and master but i just do it for fun and the more i do it the more i understand how hard it is. Was the mix brittle before getting it mastered? Your mix should sound exactly like u want it before getting it mastered. You get all your punch and low end and clarity and everything else u want when u mix it. Most of the time when its brittle and fatiguing, There's EQ problems throughout the mix and when u master it they come out even more. I'm trying to learn all this too and EQing seems to be the hardest for me so the advice i have is check all your EQ's and Cut frequencies, dont boost! I hope this helps a little and good luck!

OK, I gotta update this thread and give some serious props to Danny Danzi. After quite a bit of time (I started this thread on April 11th and we are JUST finishing this now), Danny is in the final stages of submitting the final masters to me. It was quite a process. Danny is an EXCELLENT teacher and he really took the initiative and became a real partner on this project. No other mastering engineer would have spent the time and cared so much about our project. I did all the physical work, but I couldn't have done it without Danny's trained ears, technical knowledge and most of all PATIENCE. I think I'm a better mixing engineer and even recording engineer as a result of this experience. It has been INCREDIBLE. Everything happens for a reason and part of why is because I was unwilling to accept 2nd best. I KNEW there was a diamond in the middle of that coal, but I lacked experience and direction. I just want to say to ANYONE, that if you're looking for somebody to help you take your work to the next level, you need to either work with or just listen to what Danny talks about. He's a rarity. He really does give a **** and has an incredible amount of knowledge. I know first hand, because everything he told me to do, everything he suggested panned out. And though he and I didn't always agree on everything stylistically, there is NO ego there to get bruised. From me, Danny not only has a client for life, but a friend. Thanks Danny for helping me make the best album I have ever made. Scott Martinez

I'm just glad you're happy and we got it sounding just the way you wanted. Thank YOU for giving me the opportunity to work with you and of course, giving me your friendship. And you're welcome.....we make a pretty good team. :) Incidentally, my Dad stopped over for breakfast and said "I'm going to the post office to get some stamps....I'll mail his discs." So you should have them in about 3 days or so. We got all the upload stuff done...so that should keep you busy until the discs get there. Thanks for everything once again Scott...I had a blast working with you. :) Makeshfit: That's very kind of you, thanks! You got plenty of stuff that's worthy of being sent....but you can probably do some "little m" mastering on it yourself unless you plan on releasing something. I'll take good care of you if you ever decide to send something my way though. :) -Danny
