Middle Eastern sounds...
Does anyone know of a good drum package(for SD2 or Session Drummer 3, etc) that has some good sounding Middle Eastern drums as well as a good sounding sitar and other assorted instruments? Thanks!

I don't know of one specifically for those drum samplers but for the kinds of sounds that you're looking for check out the Ethno Sampler by MOTU...seems to be pretty comprehensive and well regarded.
Please listen to my band's new (post-prog rock?!) songs at www.reclaimmusic.com all produced using sonar X1!!

Thanks! I have not found one for middle eastern drums. If you cannot record someone playing dumbek, riq or the like, then the next best bet is to get a good sample and sample the different percussion sounds. As for Sitar - the Roland supernatural sitar is really nice. Of course, no substitute for the real thing. Best of luck on this venture.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

I don't recall all the sounds in it but Cake has a sound pack for it's Cakewalk Sound Center called "World" and there are a number of useful sounds in it. I used it for some Japanese sounding stuff for TV & Film a while back. Here's the link: http://www.store.cakewalk...ductid=10-DSWI1.00-20E It's only $20 and says it has a number of percussion sounds in it. I do recall seeing a number of percussion things in it but I don't recall their names. Kinda wish cake would put complete listings on their products.... World Instruments represents an array of strings, winds, and percussion instruments from around the globe. African melodic and percussion, Chinese and India winds, Russian strings, and steel percussion instruments will color musical compositions with old world harmonic textures. This collection brings inspiring elements that weave the old world into the new world. (109 Programs)

DSF do the Planet Earth expansion for Dim Pro. It has many percussion and tuned sounds from all round - european, asian african.. I don't think it has a Sitar, though. If you have EZDrummer or Superior, their Latin Percussion EZX is pretty good. Don't be fooled by the name - it includes Udu, Shekere and Cajon.

If you use SD2, I'm assuming you are familiar with EastWest's RA... not at my DAW, but remember RA having some nice Middle Eastern Drums... Best, Rob

Swar plug is very good though more Indian than middle eastern but quite an eclectic mix but it's still 32 bit only. Swarshala is 64 bit and very nice but again, not really middle Eastern I have a track called, Shornokhar on my soundcloaud page which uses swarplug. Steve

Have a look at Volko Alaturka Drums: http://www.volkoaudio.com/ It has a lot of patterns, fills, and styles. You can drag the patterns right into Sonar. Lots of fun, too!
