Want to use Matrix as a Pattern Style sequencer record/loop question!

I would like to use the Matrix view like an old pattern style sequencer. What is the best way to record/setup that I can use to achieve a smooth loop of the recorded elements within the Matrix cells..I would like to capture all recorded and non recorded elements within a track (including empty space between measures)to achieve a smooth loop when I drag and drop to the Matrix cell. I was thinking of recording with loop on set between measures, then dragging and dropping recorded track to the Matrix view and Matrix quantization set on "measure"...Is this the best settings or way to accomplish this?-would appreciate any suggestions. I tried it a couple of times with mixed results :-( 

Ok thanks-I will check it out when I get home; I got so frustrated the other night trying to get smooth and even loops in the cells on the Matrix view in the past-sometimes I feel like I spend more time learning how to operate some of the new features versus creating, but I guess that's just the negative side of so many features in the new technology!
