SONAR X2 vs Roland keyboard controller

 Hi, I am running SONAR X2 Studio under Windows 7/64. My keyboard controller Roland PC-200 MK II is linked to an M-Audio Delta AP 192 soundcard. Keyboard and SONAR communicate as expected, but if I leave the keyboard switched on when exiting SONAR, the program freezes leading to a bluescreen Windows-breakdown. When I switch the keyboard off before exiting SONAR, everything is fine. Do you think this is a Windows or SONAR or keyboard issue? Fritz

Hi Robert, The PC-200 MK II is a pure keyboard controller, it does not produce sound, only MIDI commands. Its output is a standard MIDI-out 5pin which goes into the MIDI-in plug of the soundcard. In this case, no further drivers than the soundcard's own are required, as the keyboard is not communicating with Windows. If your soundcard does not have a MIDI-in plug, then you need to go via a MIDI/USB conversion for which there are no drivers available for this keyboard. Generic Windows drivers might work, as it is just another input device but I am not sure about the stability and quality that can be achieved. If you have a working MIDI-link between keyboard and soundcard, SONAR will accept the MIDI commands from any soundcard properly installed and set up in SONAR. You need to have an active track and a MIDI-synth selected, of course. Fritz
