USB midi keyboard problem
Hi guys, I'm using sonar x2 producer. I found an old keyboard, casio ctk-2000, the only actual use that i can give this is as a midi controller. I had used it with X1 like a year ago without any problem, but for some reason, I can't get it to work now. the problem is that i put a synth in a single instrument track, input CASIO-MIDI ch1, or ch omni, and output master. no sound comes out when I play, but when I click on the virtual keyboard on kontakt the sound does come out. Strangely when I run the kontakt stand alone I do not have any problems. the midi out/in is only via usb, sonar detects the keyboard, and it let me select it , I have it enabled as default midi device in/out, so I doubt is a driver problem. I'm using a toshiba laptop with windows 7 ultimate and a m-audio fast track pro interface hope you guy can help me, thanks

I always use separate audio and midi tracks for my keyboard parts. Just as an experiment, can you try the following? 1. Insert an audio track 2. Insert a midi track 3. Load a soft synth into the synth rack, leaving only the check for the box to open the synth property page. 4. Load a sound into the synth, when the property page opens up. 5. Assign the Input for the audio track to the stereo output of the synth. Leave output assigned to Master. 6. Sonar will likely have already made the assignment for the midi track output, to the synth you inserted into the rack. If it isn't already set so, set the midi output for the midi track to the soft synth. leave the midi input to none, so it will pick up as omni. 7. click on the midi track, on the number at the left, to select the track. This should, by default, also turn on the input echo on for the midi track. 8. You should now be able to hear sound when you play on your midi keyboard, with that sound being the soft synth sound you loaded. Please post back with the results of the above, hopefully that will work for you. Bob Bone

tried it, sadly it´s still not working. If I click the virtual keyboard on the kontakt 5 screen the correct sound comes out. And when I try to record on the midi track (CASIO MIDI:IN - KONTAKT5:OUT) no note appears in the track. I'm gonna try deleting the casio drivers and reinstalling them. If you have any more ideas please popst back Thanks

Try going into Preferences in Sonar, then going to midi devices and making sure your keyboard is checked

If you insert a MIDI track and set the input to the same output channel from your Casio, do you see the MIDI activity indicator bar moving up and down as you play?

oooookaaay, this is kind of awkward and weird, I could actually fix the problem by changing the usb port where I plug the keyboard. Kind of strange because sonar detects the CASIO USB MIDI in either usb port... and the kontakt stand alone also work with both usb ports.} anyway thanks to everybody, I really appreciate your help

always and I mean always plug the keyboard in to the port you installed the drivers too. sonar will see both but it wont work properly, the same goes for audio interfaces.

On my setup, my Roland keyboards will only respond on USB2 ports, not USB3, although the driver will install with either port. Not sure why, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Have Sonar open and try other USB ports. When sonar sees one it likes, it will ask if you want to make it active.

USB3 ports often need a separate driver. Have you installed that? Might the problem.

yes, I have 3 usb ports (USB3 all of them) (2 on the left and one on the right of my laptop) I got my interface located at the right of my laptop, so it´s alway pluged in the same port, and my keyboard at the left (the port where the keybopard works it´s actually a usb/esata combo). I have the usb3 drivers installed.
