was it worth it?

Friends,

Looking for advice/opinions.

Kontakt upgrade from 4 Complete to Complete to 5.

Cheap $139 upgrade, but was bummed out that Guitar Rig was still ver 5 and not a lot changed.

I did the Complete ver 4 a couple years ago.

Looks like the investment would upgrade Kontakt to ver 5, Guitar Rig to ver 5, the strings plug, and whatever else useless stuff thrown in. Was waiting for what's left of my hair to be blown back in the new release but it didn't happen

Any of you did the upgrade, and was it worth it.

Respect,

John K

I upgraded from Komplete 8 to Komplete 9 Ultimate.  was worth it to have everything. got me extras but already had Kontact 5, guitar rig 5 etc.  I upgraded to get the mastering plugins, strings, battery 4 etc.

If you have Kontact 4 already the only reason to upgrade it to Kontact 5 is if there is some 3rd party library you want or need that requires Kontact 5+.

I have 3 libraries that require Kontact 5+ and wont work with contact player.  was it worth it?  I think so.

There are comparison charts that show what Komplete standard vs. Ultimate and what products are included.  since you already have an older version you just have to weigh if the upgrade gets you anything useful.  <<shrug>>

    MacineClaw,

Thanks for your time to respond. Real toss up. It's cheap, but  falls short of the glory I would have expected for a new release.

Guitar Rig 5 has some new stuff, better compatibility looking forward with Kontakt 5, and the string library. Have to weigh whether to spend on some house fix material or upgrade.

    I've just purchased Kontakt 4.

I looked at Kontakt 5 upgrade but saw no reason to go for it.

I already own Guitar Rig 4, and some other Guitar Amp Sims, so I don't feel that I even need to bother with GR 5.

    Thanks jimusic,

Helps validate where I am on the fence with this.

    About the hair thing...

Hit age 60 some years ago and was wondering why the young chicks weren't flashing me as much as they used to. Then nobody cards you for alcohol any more.

Then they offer you senior discounts at the thrift store without asking, and you start getting mailers for pay now, die later cremation bargains.

They trying to tell me something?

Otherwise will likely hold back on the Kontakt upgrade.

    Best,

    Hahaha John.

At least the chicks [ whether young or not] were flashing you at some point.

I turn 52 this August and I'm still waiting [????].

Perhaps it's time to abondon that sinking ship already.

Especially since I'm getiing called 'Sir' for the last 5-10 years now.

For me Kontakt upgrade? - only if I see a clear and decisive need jump out at me.

Interested in what libraries you use that require it?
Recently decided to download Kontakt 5 Player as I'm finding a couple of third part libraries that finally interest me (Vir6 guitar and Ethno World 5). But in playing the included sounds of the K5 Player, it seems to really suck and I'm sure it's just because of the sounds and not the player.

So do you know of any really good samples at a decent price to really give the player a better chance at proving itself?

sorry I have libraries that either require full Kontact 4+ or work with Kontact 5 Player or 5 full.

generally if a library requires the full version of 4 or 5 then they have scripting that requires the full versions.  and I don't think they have to pay NI for Player compatability.

MY OrangeTree Samples Strawberry requires full Kontact 4 version cause of scripting and I have full 5 so it works.

(I did not have Kontact 4 full or Player).  So like I said if a library requires Kontact 5 Full and does not work with player then of course it would be worth upgrading.

Unfortunately most of the good pay products require full version of Kontact 4/5.  or are really expensive and don't work with player.

I don't know of libraries that work with player that are good and cheap.

As the fellows from Hollow Sun often point out, the licensing needed to make something Player compatible would prevent them from offering their libraries anywhere near as reasonably priced as they are.
