Drummers - Can You Help With These Rides?

I am using Sonar X2 with four sampled ride cymbals. The samples are just named 'Ride Cymbal 1, 2, 3 and 4'.

I know these forums are blessed with excellent pro and non-pro drummers and I'm hoping a drummer can give me more info on these ride sounds.

For example, is a cymbal hit on the rim or bell, is it a ride crash or just different sizes. Is a cymbal hit with the tip, shoulder or shank of the stick etc.

I do know the four cymbals are from the same kit if that's any help. In my clip there are four hits on each cymbal. I have left the panning just as it is in each sample.

Thanks for any help

You can hit the ride anywhere and with two parts of the stick. The best way for you to get the idea is to just do it. You use the tip of the stick or where the stick becomes the thickest just below the tip. For the bell of the cymbal you would use the thick part of the stick. You can use either the tip or thick part at about 1/4 the way from the edge of the cymbal. Use the thick part of the stick if you want to crash the ride at the edge. There's really no wrong way unless it sounds bad.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.
