Komplete 9 Update
Picked up and installed the $149 Komplete 9 update. It really is worth the money IMO, no need to sit on the fence. The new stuff is Battery 4, Monark, The Giant, session strings and the solid effects liberated from Guitar rig. There were also a couple of minor upgrades to current products, but I can't remember what they were. I only installed what I saw as new. There didn't seem to be a need to re-install the entire library, or Komplete. Life is too short. Battery 4 is great and it comes with a new library. The sounds I've listened to have been really nice and the reworked interface is very smooth and easy on the eyes. Loading libraries happens very fast on my machine and the entire program just seems snappier. I haven't had time to import any Battery 3 libraries, but if it works well I'll be shelving Battery 3. I was worried that it would all be boom beats and urban but there's lots of cool stuff. The sounds on the Indian instruments are amazing. Great deal.

I'm slowly sliding off the fence, I think. How about the Giant? Is it a good general purpose piano, or is it more of a speciality instrument?

Giant is excellent. It's different and very playable.

My understanding is the it doesn't directly or properly import Battery 3 kits. That's the deal breaker for me. I want acoustic drums and am not interested all the beeps an blips I hear on the horrible B4 demo. Basically Battery is no longer for acoustic drums and I hate editing drums in Kontatk so as much as I was anticipation Battery 4 it's an epic fail for me. YMMV

So you need to keep Battery 3 and 4 installed? That's kind of lame.

You do not have to have b3 and b4 installed if you don't want to. but if there is some older kit then you can load it in b4. so far as I can see all the old b3 kits are in the listings of b4 and there are new b4 kits. I haven't tryed to save a cell in b3 and load it into b4 - but there is a cell save/load button so I would assume it would work.

Open Battery 4 - go to File - point to Battery 3 library kit folder - open battery 3 Jazz Brush Kit. no problem. assigned cells and each loaded really smoothly and quickly. all sound fine. I think cause I had Battery 3 installed when I installed Battery 4 it only loaded the new kits into the battery 4 library folder. all my Battery 3 (battery 1, 2, 3) all are there and all load no problem. I'm not finding any problem. though now I might have to merge folders or something cause not I have tons of folders to go through. but the file browser is quick and easy to navigate. I just loaded 2 different Battery kits - one a v3 kit and one a v1 kit. no problems here. BTW Battery 3 still works and runs so I can always go run that too. I don't know why I would go back. I love battery 4 interface much much better than battery 3. it's easyer for me to understand and see what I need to get to.

Battery 4 is full of all the kits I never really bothered with in B3. Kind of like getting a 727 to compliment your 909. I like the interface as well, just the same but completely different.
