Clueless question about message formatting on this forum

Sorry to ask, but I'm using XP both at home and at work and I can't seem to post a message here that doesn't get processed into one unbroken block of text. None of my carriage returns seem to survive the journey, and as a result my posts are devoid of paragraphs. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.

This forum software doesn't like newer versions of Firefox. Try an older version or just switch to Chrome.

You can format by adding in the html line break tags <br>

works for linebreaks, but if I enter other html tags I get a server error when I attempt to submit the message.

For stuff like links and images, I type in the appropriate BBCode, but it's painful !

Now, if I post a message with links and forget to make a copy before sending, and then want to edit it,
it comes back with html codes which won't work, so I have to retype everything. Doubly painful !!

When editing a message in Firefox you must remove the html markup from around links. Not the best but it does work. Urls can be entered directly, the html code is added by the forum software.

I use Google Chrome for this forum and Firefox for everything else.  Firefox seems to work better for video streaming.
