Latency (Didn't want to hijack someone else's thread)

Reading the " Latency - even now" post and the responses, it's helped me track down why all of a sudden I have latency in a project. So that brings up a couple more questions.
 
1) E on the keyboard disables all plugins. Since I use amplitube for guitar and bass tracks, it's kind of necessary to have it on. Without deleting plugins in use is there a way to disable certain ones? Simply turning them off does not work.
 
2) The use of plugins. Is it best to finish all recording before applying them?

Custom PC running Windows 10 64, i7 CPU, 32gigs of RAM, Focusrite 18i20, Sonar Platinum.

    Just avoid the plugins that are known to introduce latency when tracking. Generally plugins that introduce latency will say so in their documentation. Since the plugins are intended for mixing and mastering avoiding them should not be a problem while tracking.

    I guess I'm getting too antsy to tinker and tweak before I'm finished. :)

    That is still doable, for example use an algorithmic reverb like Sonitus instead of Perfect Space while tracking.

    One way to do this is use the disable E key then enable the one or two FX you really need.

    Like Scook said, if it's a convolution reverb like Perfect Space or Reverberate, then track with Pantheon or some such, and replace when mixing.  I tend to use Breverb now.
     
    Leave things like LP-64 EQ and Multiband, TS-64, PC Concrete Limiter etc. until you're done tracking.
     
    You could also try freezing tracks with these effects on, but I have found that can bring it's own issues.
     
    I guess if the effect is on a track that you don't need to hear when tracking, you could archive it until you're finished, if you don't want to go through the hastle of deleting and re-setting up the effect.
