MC6 and Win 8
Hello forum members, I’m going to be updating my XP/OS Duo-Core PC running Project 5 V2 to Music Creator 6 (Touch) with a Dell 660 i3 (1st gen)-1Gb-8meg Win 8 64-bit. My only use this system is as a play along to MIDI file system through a Roland M16DX USB mixer using Dimension Pro and a few other sample libraries that I acquired from Cakewalk. I own and can use Sonar 8 Producer but I find it overkill for this application and it looks like MC6 and Win 8 is the answer I've been looking for. I know I’ll have to start from the beginning by redoing all of my Project 5 MIDI songs files (all 1000 of them) and I’m hoping to get some information on migrating them and the Virtual Instrument over and to share some experiences. TIA, Baseplayer

When you get it loaded up, let us know. I hope you plan on using a decent sound card/interface. 1000 songs to "migrate".... glad that's you and not me. If they were created in P8, they should open fine in MC6... the only issue might be "missing synths and FX" that you have in P8 that are not in the new computer or MC6. You could probably install P8 (assuming it runs on the new OS) and get the plugs and FX working too.

Thanks for the reply and to the links to your website Herb. I like your old Gibby SG and HD. My USB interface is the Roland M 16-DX. It’s an amazing 24bit/96kHz DSP powered mixer and computer interface. It’s all being digitally connected to over 700 Watts of DSP powered studio monitors. The audio chain is pretty pristine with a very low noise floor and pretty wide dynamic range. All of the songs are P5 (Project 5) files and 90% of the VI are using Dimension Pro. Which I hope we’ll either transfer over or won’t be missed. I’m prepared to have to redo the songs over again (there’s over 1000 on 2 GB drives) and I hope I can simply import the original MIDI files into MC6 in the same way Project 5 imported them. If I remember correctly there was no way to do it using Sonar. I hope that’s not the case with MC6.

all songs from P5 should open in Sonar or MC6 as long as they're all .cwp or .cwb files (or possibly the old .bun files - but those should also open (not import) into Sonar or MC, but might have more difficulty). if they're not saved as .cwp, .cwb or .bun then they won't open in Sonar OR MC. and whatever doesn't work in Sonar won't work in MC and visa versa because MC is just a stripped down version of Sonar. the problem you'll see for opening those files in Sonar or MC from P5 files will be if you have P5 plugins that no longer exist on the machine you're on so that you'll get an error that it can't find that plugin when you open in Sonar or MC.

Thanks. I'm going to update MC-6XP (boxed copy) to MC-6 Win8/64 via the download site. And I'd like to use some of the software that's includes with the Roland V-100. Has anyone tried doing this? Is there an installation order? Sorry to be a PITA, I haven't received my authorization disc and can't ask tech-support. So, TIA.

I haven't received my authorization disc Authorization disk for what? You should have all of the serial numbers with the products already. Cake emails your registration code (generaly within minutes) once you register... Gle

Boxed copies contain all the serials needed to get it authorized. Be sure to register it with Cake on their site though. You can register and store all your numbers on the cake site.....real handy at times to have this info on their site. Just look for the "register your software" and follow the prompts. Once you get MC6 installed be sure to use the plug in manager to tell it where to find Dim Pro.... after you install that as well.... then, when you open the files from the old cake platform in MC6, you should be good to go.

Hello Forum. I’ve successfully downloaded and updated MC-6 XP Boxed to MC-6 Win8/64. It took a while to do via a WiFi connection but it’s done and went smoothly because of Cakewalk's registration registry. I couldn’t get my temporary audio interface a Cakewalk UFX4 to work. It was recognized as a WME32 but not as an ASIO device. So I’ve rebooted and now Windows 8 is updating 2 of 36 updates. (It’s been stuck on 2 of 36 for some time.) I did get to load a MIDI loop in MC6 Touch Win 8/64 and see (not hear) it in action. It looked fantastic and responded very fast on my new computer. I’ll keep you posted.

Be sure to grab the latest and correct drivers for the UFX4. It should run on ASIO. After all the updates to W8 happen, switch the driver mode to ASIO and run the profiler again. Got to love a new computer..... especially after you get it all set up and running.

No Joy! I encountered difficulties with installing the WIN8 drivers from my UA-4FX. I can't uninstall and reinstall them. According to Cakewalks's Tech support I need to contact Roland for help. I've tried uninstalling and rebooting numerous times. Any help would be appreciated. My new VS-100 is on it's way and maybe that will save the day...

I'm afraid your problem might be with win8 drivers - you probably do need to conatact roland. I don't think I can be of any help with that - I'm still on win7.

Thanks Beagle, I'm going to continue with the last of the Windows updates but, the UA-4FX was being recognized in MC-6 ASIO setting at first. It isn't any longer. It won't allow me to un-install or re-install the drivers and gives me an error message. I have made an email inquiry at Roland. And, I hope I won't have this issue with the VS-100's Win 8 64 drivers. I have downloaded them and read the instructions. There's also a firmware 1.5 update for the VS-100. I hope both Cakewalk and/or Roland will be proactive with supporting their products integration. I've already hit the wall with trying to use the UA-FX. It's in Advanced driver mode as indicated in the readme file. I'll keep you and the forum posted. Thanks again,

I was able to find this document. It seems to be loading the drivers. Tech support sent me a boilerplate reply and sent me down the worm-hole. I hope this helps all who make the jump... http://www.rolandus.com/s...dge_base/view/23719573 UA-4FX: SYMPTOM: Driver Will Not Install (Windows) Knowledge Base Id: 23719573 Tags: driver, install, problems, windows The following steps will guide you through an alternative driver installation process in the event that you are receiving an error message or the driver will not install properly on your computer.
