MC6 and Win 8

Hello forum members, I’m going to be updating my XP/OS Duo-Core PC running Project 5 V2 to Music Creator 6 (Touch) with a Dell 660 i3 (1st gen)-1Gb-8meg Win 8 64-bit. My only use this system is as a play along to MIDI file system through a Roland M16DX USB mixer using Dimension Pro and a few other sample libraries that I acquired from Cakewalk. I own and can use Sonar 8 Producer but I find it overkill for this application and it looks like MC6 and Win 8 is the answer I've been looking for. I know I’ll have to start from the beginning by redoing all of my Project 5 MIDI songs files (all 1000 of them) and I’m hoping to get some information on migrating them and the Virtual Instrument over and to share some experiences. Thanks for the reply and to the links to your website Herb. I like your old Gibby SG and HD. My USB interface is the Roland M 16-DX. It’s an amazing 24bit/96kHz DSP powered mixer and computer interface. It’s all being digitally connected to over 700 Watts of DSP powered studio monitors. The audio chain is pretty pristine with a very low noise floor and pretty wide dynamic range. All of the songs are P5 (Project 5) files and 90% of the VI are using Dimension Pro. Which I hope we’ll either transfer over or won’t be missed. I’m prepared to have to redo the songs over again (there’s over 1000 on 2 GB drives) and I hope I can simply import the original MIDI files into MC6 in the same way Project 5 imported them. If I remember correctly there was no way to do it using Sonar. I hope that’s not the case with MC6.

Thanks. I'm going to update MC-6XP (boxed copy) to MC-6 Win8/64 via the download site. And I'd like to use some of the software that's includes with the Roland V-100. Has anyone tried doing this? Is there an installation order? Sorry to be a PITA, I haven't received my authorization disc and can't ask tech-support. So, TIA.

Boxed copies contain all the serials needed to get it authorized. Be sure to register it with Cake on their site though. You can register and store all your numbers on the cake site.....real handy at times to have this info on their site. Just look for the "register your software" and follow the prompts. 

Once you get MC6 installed be sure to use the plug in manager to tell it where to find Dim Pro.... after you install that as well.... then, when you open the files from the old cake platform in MC6, you should be good to go. 

Be sure to grab the latest and correct drivers for the UFX4.  It should run on ASIO. After all the updates to W8 happen, switch the driver mode to ASIO and run the profiler again. 

Got to love a new computer..... especially after you get it all set up and running. 

I'm afraid your problem might be with win8 drivers - you probably do need to conatact roland.  I don't think I can be of any help with that - I'm still on win7.

I was able to find this document. It seems to be loading the drivers. Tech support sent me a boilerplate reply and sent me down the worm-hole.
