Stretching a short audio clip

First, Thanks to all of you who help the helpless!

I have clip of a single lead guitar lick that lasts about a beat and a half that I want to stretch 200% to three beats.  I'm following the users manual on page 618 on slip-stretching audio.  I hold down the control key while moving the smart tool over the end of the clip.  I see the promised yellow line but the clip only stretches about 5% then the notes that were moved out of the way begin to appear as if I'm slip-EDITING.  Please help.  Thanks.

Hi Larry,

Not sure why that's happening, but as a workaround, you might want to try using the Length function instead. Choose Process > Length from SONAR's main menu and make sure the Stretch Audio option is activated. Also choose the appropriate algorithm via the Type parameter.

Thanks Scott.  This is very, very helpful.  I use band-in-the box and by it's very nature its parts don't often cross measures.  Stretching makes it possible to have more realistic sounding fills and solos.   I have a 64 bit processer, 4 GB ram, 2.8 mhtz.  What rendoring algorithm do you recommend.  By the way, bought your X1 book two weeks ago.  Using the V-Vocal and Syth sections so far.

Either radius works the best. Try bouncing your original clip down first if ctrl+drag isnt working properly.

Hey Larry... as Perfectprint mentioned, try out the Radius algorithms for the best results. And thanks very much for getting the book! I hope you're enjoying it.

Larry,

I have found Melodyne to be the best tool for audio stretching (among many other things it does perfectly).

If you do this very often you might consider it.  There is a unexpensive basic version of Meldyne which is VERY worth the money.

Good luck,

Jhon
