insure notes i'm playing fall within the correct musical scale

when i'm playing my midi keyboard is there any way to get sonar to insure notes i'm playing fall within a musical scale

example: i want all notes i play to fall within the Am pentatonic scale

i will assume the responsibility for knowing and trying my best to only play the notes in the Am pentatonic scale but should i hit a wrong note can sonar not accept it or make a choice\guess as to what i wanted and play a correct note for the scale which i can edit later

i'm looking for this functionality MIDI Effect Tutorial: How To Use Ableton’s Scale | Ableton Life

Yes, check out the Snap To Scale feature in SONAR. Click the background of the MIDI track in the Track list to make it active. Press I to open the Inspector. In the right side of the Inspector, you'll see the Snap To Scale parameters.

    Hi Mike,

Sorry, I didn't realize you were trying to do it in real-time. Snap To Scale only works when you're inputting notes via the PRV or Inline PRV.

What you can try instead is adding the Transpose MIDI effect to the FX bin of the MIDI track. That should work in real-time. However, the recorded data won't be changed... only what you hear. So after the data is recorded, you'll need to apply the Transpose effect permanently to the MIDI track by selecting the track and choosing Process > Apply Effect > MIDI Effects from SONAR's main menu.

    thanks

i'll take the video down now

btw i forgot to tell you i discovered i had purchased the kindel version of SONAR X1 Power! and have been using it until kindel X2 arrives

in addition to enlarging the print so i can see it  and the windows 7 kindle search capabilities ( win 8's don't work, the search charm searches your library not the book you're reading!!) i really like being able to create bookmarks, notes and highlights which i can display like a table of contents   makes finding things easy

especially those insightful "i recommend" suggestions of yours

and because i have a tablet i can read in the bathroom!!

Hey Mike... thanks very much! I appreciate it. The Kindle version is now available. I've got a link on my site:  http://www.garrigus.com/powerbooks.asp

Also, and only if you have time, but once you've had a chance to look at SONAR X2 Power! could you post a review up on Amazon and in the Cakewalk Store?

Hey John... sorry about that. The publisher is still working on getting the Kindle edition distributed Internationally. Not sure exactly when yet.

Will Amazon.com allow you to sign in with your UK account?

See the Signing Into Amazon.com To Buy Kindle section on this page...

I'm not sure if that works with just the Kindle itself or ebooks also.

    Thanks!
