Wow liver failure...I really wonder whether that had anything to do with the skin disease and the spider bite, or just good old fashioned rock and roll drinking....anyway, another rock legend gone

I've always made it a point to see them whenever they were in the area.
If they carry on it just won't be the same.

I've seen Slayer many times on 3 different continents. Jeff Hanneman was a shredding genious and one of the meanest guitarists out there - and from what I hear, a proper gentleman to boot...

I thought he was a bit older than that. We used to listen to Slayer a lot when I was like 12-13 - Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits.

When you're twelve, those grow ups are all so much older than you and that impression remained. But he was only 9 years older than I am. Makes you sit down and think.

I remember at the age of 14 seeing the photo of Metallica on the back of Kill Em All and seeing them as grown ups. Looking at it now, they so obviously look like a bunch of spotty teens.

One cannot overestimate the impact of that photo. For your average 13 years old kid w/ acne problems, seeing those ugly bastards making records and kicking butts was like the silver lining... Particularly at a time of pretty boys wearing make up and living glamorous lives.

They looked poor, drank beer and hated posers just like we did - Metallica became my heroes.
