PEAVEY STUDIOMIX for CAKEWALK!

Talk about a blast from the past!! I have a VS-100 and have not been pleased with it as a control surface.. However, THIS BABY ROCKS!! Right out of the box.. If you can't afford a VS-700 this thing fits the bill.. So what I have been doing is using the Studio mix for faders, pan, solo, bank left/right... DID I MENTION THE JOG/SHUTTLE??? Of course it has transport also.. I just use the VS-100 for my channel strips, and as an interface of course.. But seriously, BUY THIS. Automation is a breeze! And the best part, I got mine for $50 plus shipping, NEW IN THE BOX!!!! =)

I can confirm... the StudioMix is still a really good control surface. I was able to get the Where-Am-I function working in X1, for some reason it stopped working in X2, but I think it's probably an easy fix, I just haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. Even without that it works nicely!

Still have mine, but not using it at the moment. Saving it in case I need it. Worth more to keep it than to sell it.

That is good news!  I still have mine; it must be from the 90's when I used it with Cakewalk's Pro Audio.  I have never tried it with either X1 or X2 mainly because I use the transport controls and faders/knobs on my PCR800 for such.  I do recall where I have my StudioMix stored; so I think I will bring it out and try it again.  That jog wheel will be nice to use again.  Thanks for reminding me/us of this little jem from days gone by.

I still use one as well...

But I keep the faders set to none as the device has a lot of jitter and it constantly makes my fader settings drift...

So I use it for transport control and use V-Control (free) for the remainder of my needs.... One day I may be able to afford to buy the full version of V-Control...

But the Studiomix works well for remote transport control for me in my live room...

Pardon posting about this in more than one place...
Just picked one of these up for cheap. Wondering if anyone has used it with the VS700 to control faders 9-16? I'm sort of itching to try it out, but would I use "act" to do setup? Any hints or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I still have mine but I no longer use it. It was and still is a great control surface. My number two fader was acting up the last time I use it. The fader jumps from 0 to max volume and nothing in between.

To setup, visit Control Surfaces section in the Sonar preferences and add StudioMix, pointing to correct MIDI in/out (enabled them first in MIDI Devices section, if not done yet). If there is no StudioMix in the choice, try to install https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013438/Control-Surface-Installers (I do not remember from where I have my).

But please note that old StudioMix units can:
    * spontaneously move faders on there own, false thinking they are move by user. So it can slowly and randomly modify the mix  (common problem)
    * send broken messages, doi ng "random" things as the result (less usual)
    * encoders/jogger generate in correct direction (aged light sensors?)
I have all 3 problems. But some people do not have them at all.

Note that faders are not touch sensitive nor precise. Please do not expect the quality and convenience of VS700 (the last is still close to $1000 on e-bay, StudioMix rarely hit $50).
