I want to share, what I think is the slickest, fastest, best web host around right now.

I've got a site running on this, and it is like a bullet!!  It is so fast, I can't believe it.

http://www.rackspace.com/

I've got some folks I know, who host at godaddy, and even though I've never hosted with godaddy, I know that the sites are so slow, and bug ridden.

Actually, for years I hosted at siteground.com, but its like, "they haven't been able to upgrade to really great tech.  They are kinda, "low on the scale of good hosting," even though they used to be great.

I actually wanted to host on Microsoft Azure..  Can you believe it?  OMG, that would have been a huge mistake!!!   Even though Azure is giving away a promo, where you can host sites for free right now ( if you use very little compute cycles, hd space, and data transfer. )  I tried to sign up, but for some odd reason, their back end wouldn't take my info.

All I'm doing is running my latest wordpress blog, and I found a really inexpensive way to get it up on rackspace's architecture, and it so fast.  Its going to be great!!

The problem is:  To do this at a rate that I could afford, I kinda had to make the database and edit the wp-config, and ftp everything myself..  Instead of having fantastico do it, or whatever auto install you find at godaddy and siteground, and that type of stuff.

So obviously, I started doing my wp install before my domain was fully pointed, and now I had to write support, cause I messed up my permalinks a bit, and I probably have to edit the htaccess.php....

Anyways, I'm not linking my new blog because A:  it is a political blog.  B:  I don't want it tied to this post.

But wow!!  Rackspace is amazing.   Fast, fast, fast!!

( Edit = yep, its linux. )

too many lasers...

    GoDaddy sucks.

I've been with HostGator for about 7 years now and it's been great, except one time I noticed a new folder in my directory structure, and upon opening it discovered that someone had gotten into my space and was using it to store what looked to be the beginnings of a Russian porn site. There were no pictures, just the page layouts with placeholders. But from the bits of text I could read, it seemed to be porn along the lines of "Russian mother & son." Sounded EXTRA creepy, so I called HostGator and was told to delete the files and that they'd look into a possible security breach (you don't say). Always wise to check your domain space from time to time in case someone has been using it for colorful purposes.

I actually have a friend that was working at HostGator and then switched to go work for RackSpace. He loves it and says its a great place to work. I'm finishing up this month with 1&1 and then moving it over to Rackspace. Its just a personal blog like yours, ObiAudio.com.

Mine have been with 1and1 for years.  Since I really only use mine for storage and file transfers, I haven't had any issues.  For one of my clients I maintain an online store which is hosted by Go Daddy and, while they seem to charge you for every little thing, their customer service is awesome.

Another plus 1 for 1&1. The only issue I've had with them is if you get a spammer that happens to be a part of your mail server, it can get you blacklisted with certain ISP's. Every 4 months or so Comcast will start blocking any mail I send to their customers using my DD.com email addy. I call 1&1 and tell them about it, and in like 24 hours it's resolved. Though this sucks, it's happened with every hosting company I've ever been with. I've even offered to pay more to make sure it doesn't happen again, but they have no way of knowing who will spam that may sign up for their services until they actually spam. I could easily run my own server but I don't have the time to set all that up and keep it running right.

Anyway, 1&1 is affordable, fast, 24 hour support and they really take care of you when you need to use them. So far they've been the best I've used and they are the least expensive of the ones I've tried.

Agreed, I've been with 1&1 for a good 5 years now and they've been cool. But I still want to try rackspace. I have 7 domains so I'm going to try the transition with 1 or 2 first.
