I really want a 3D printer

I'd love to be able to print my own cheap household tat instead of wasting pennies on it in the stores.

I bet China's mildly worried.

And that is why there will never be any money in 3D printers.

Two weeks ago I was in a Toronto SFX studio and got to see a $150,000 machine up close. If you need a simple 3d object you simply put it in the box and hit "copy". It does a 3d laser scan to map the object and then tells you to remove the object. While you work on other stuff it makes the copy. It will contact you via computer or phone to let you know it's finished. The stuff they make on it is incredible.

I had not realized how good they have become. I saw everything from scale model dinosaurs to bike chains, and some very cool chess pieces. The rooks had internal spiral stair cases, with a DNA helix running down the center like a fireman's pole.

    Regards, John

That's great. Now we can all be armed ! Just have to find a place to hide the firing pin and we can all be terrorists.

    Look here.
    and
    Here.

    A couple of "firsts".

At a pickup forum I asked if anybody was printing pickup bobbins. I think it will
be quite some time for the price to come down for printers that will perform to
a quality that many users will need.

I'd like to print bobbins just to have control over design/color which could also include pertinent information about the pup and builder but cost per piece and quality are major issues.
Not to mention other parts for guitars like knobs. Well....maybe not knobs.
