Moonlight Sonata in Synthesizer
Starting with synthesized Pianoteq, and morphing gradually through various synthesizer sounds. The object is just to intensify the musical ideas already there, and gradually/continuously vary the timbre throughout. https://soundcloud.com/jeraldhughes/moonlight-sonata

Well, you certainly did what you set out to do. This was the first song I learned on piano many, many years ago, and have never heard it played like this. Very different to say the least. I use to play it on my old 1903 Wellington up right piano. This version you created is quite unique. Very interesting sound for this old song. Peace and blessings, John

nice tune ;-) Really nicely done, the morphing. W/o losing the piano attack effect. At times starts getting synthy like Walter/Wendy, but then pulls back. @

theguitarplayer: "This was the first song I learned on piano many, many years ago, and have never heard it played like this." Exactly, this piece is SO familiar through being played so many times by so many pianists, I wanted to 'unlock' the piece from its overexposure. btw: 'Moonlight' was probably the 100th piece I learned, having worked through 99 much easier ones. Kudos for starting so far ahead!
AT: Yes, I listened to W Carlos **many** times, no doubt it's still in my ears. There's a certain aesthetic to the, sorry, sterility he brought to the Bach pieces, but I wanted something much more phrased, more dynamic, wayyyy less robotic. Thanks for listening!

That was cool. You should take some more liberties with it. Years ago, a friend of mine did an arrangement of it in 5/4 and it took awhile for me to figure out what the deal was. Good work, J

jsaras, shawn: Thanks for the comments. I have a series I think of as "Moonlight Travesty", which messes with the original piece in about a dozen different ways: quadruple tempo, removing all the sharps, modulating to wrong keys, etc. Haven't put that into Sonar yet.

Nice, Beethoven and Lennon are my biggest heroes. And it's Wendy Carlos now, not Walter. Peace Ben

Nice idea - wasn't sure what to expect here, half expected it to be one of those that I don't get to the end of, but I did and enjoyed the listen.

another great concept by snob! I am a bit jealous, I am so stuck with my chorus-verse-songwriting, and never have such cool ideas...you guys from this forum are a real inspiration, thanks for that!

Thanks for the supportive responses, paulo and speedtom. The story behind the piece is just that I'm trying to learn Sonar X2, Pianoteq, and Zebra2 in-depth, so experiments like this require me to turn a lot of knobs and throw a lot of switches, so to speak. Appreciate your listening!
