Assigning envelopes with Steven Slate 4 Drums
I've scoured the internet from top to bottom, and short of just emailing support, I wanted to know if any of you automation experts now how to assign automation in SSD4 Drums. When I select Automation->SsdSampler from within a track, I get 5 choices, all named "SsdSampler". I have no idea how to tell Sonar that "I want this envelope to control the Overhead level in the SSD mixer". Using iZotope Ozone, for example, gives me like 200 automation parameters, all labeled. I've been using my ole reliable SSD3 via Kontakt (super easy to automate), but I needed brush samples which are only available on SSD4. Anyone know the solution to my quandry??? Thanks in advance.

I'm getting similar problems. In the example you give I suppose you can automate the overhead level by sending its output to its own channel in the Sonar console and automate it there, but I can't find a way to automate controls inside ssddampler. If you find out from support, please let us know.

I just had a look at this and did some comparisons. Just to test I went through the ssd4 envelopes and made alterations to them and they did absolutely nothing. At least nothing audible and I didn't see anything moving in the mixer. There is no midi cc or nrpn automation and my guess is the envelopes being offered do not work. When right clicking in an EZdrummer audio track it suggests that there are envelopes when in actual fact there are none. Superior drummer I'm told is the same which I find very hard to believe but a friend of mine has it and was amazed when I showed him I could automate every single one of the 512 parameter s in BFD2 if I wanted to. Session drummer 3 and addictive drums also offer a full range of both envelopes and nrpn midi control and they are fully listed. The BFD2 & Eco parameters are numbered but have to be assigned within BFD2 before they are listed. I did a google search and found nothing about automating SSD4 so I'm guessing it can't be done. Steve Just to note, my version of SSD4 is the EX one so maybe the platinum version can be automated ?

Can you not route each mic to a separate output with SSD?

I also use SSD Platinum 4.0 and would love to have this work also. Keep us posted if you talk to someone at Slate.

I've never tried automation inside SSD. I output all drums to separate tracks like Bitflipper mentioned.

I output all of my tracks too, including one for "room" and "overheads". That is easy to automate. I think the problem lies with trying to automate a single instrument's overhead send within SSD.

Assuming the issue is specifically volume automation, then the best solution is to route the overheads to a separate output and then to its own audio track. Not only does this make volume automation easy, it lets you do other cool stuff such as adding your favorite compressor, reverb, distortion, transient shaper, EQ or whatever to just the OH's. Or just to the kick, or the snare, if you similarly route them to their own tracks.
If it's something other than volume you wish to automate, that could be just a little trickier. I am not an SSD user, so tell me: is it not Kontakt-based? If so, then any visible knob, slider or button is normally automatable.

SSD 3 was Kontakt based, each kit was a Kontakt multi. SSD 4 has its own sample player. Its something of a two edged sword. Its certainly a lot easier than Kontakt, at least initallialy, but its a lot less versatile too.
