OT: Anyone using Kontakt in Sonar?
Hi, After buying Komplete 9 and am using Kontakt5 a lot, but I am experiencing a very annoying problem: All NI libraries are authorized and work fine. But all others are not: paid ones and the ones that I create with my own samples. Once loaded, Kontakt5 assumes thay are demos. And demo mode lets you use them for 15 minutes and then there is not more sound. Anyone knows if there is a way to fix this? Thanks in advance, joni

I have Kontakt in the K-6 collection. I have not had any problem using kontakt in Sonar X1e or any of the MC series DAW's..... I have purchased a limited number of third party sounds, and they all work fine. None of the ones I bought are stand alone apps, they all need Kontakt to work, which tells me they are simply sound/sample libraries designed with a GUI that only runs in kontakt..... I would think that any sample libraries would not need authorization to work because I do not remember having to authorize the ones I have. The biggest problem was getting them so that I could use them in K6.... once I had them in the K6 library tree, they run fine. Something that runs in demo mode sounds like it needs to be authorized officially. Either Kontakt or the third party add-on. Have you poked around the NI forums for the answer to this?

Sounds like you're running the Kontakt Free Player rather than the full Kontakt (Kontakt 5.dll).

The paid for Kontakt libraries will run in the player, as will the free content bundled with the player, but third party content will and your own samples will time out after 15 mins. But IIRC Komplete 5 did not include Kontakt 5, I think that was introduced in Komplete 7 or 8. Kontakt 5 will not run on your Komplete 5 license. This could be why Kontakt 5 is running in player mode. Edit - one other thought, in case I am mistaken in what I have written above, what happens when you run Kontakt as a stand alone.

Thanks in advance, joni There are a few things in your description that are a bit unclear.. First of all; I'm guessing you mean Komplete 9 and not Komplete 5? ..Since you got Kontakt 3 with Komplete 5 and this version of Komplete isn't available any more. With "NI Libraries", do you mean only the ones that come with Komplete? Like "Factory Library", "Upright Piano" ect? Or do you mean all libraries released by NI but isn't necessarily included in Komplete? (In other words; that you have to activate seperately in Service Center) I really don't get what you mean when you say that you can't use libraries that you've created yourself with your own samples. Creating your own libraries isn't possible. NI libraries are restricted to "official" libraries.. You can create patches for Kontakt, yes.. But not libraries. My guess (about Kontakt's demo-confusion) would be that you haven't activated the libraries in Service Center. Once you've done this NI should have no problems knowing what libraries you own.

Hi Guitarhacker, Thank you for your info. All libraries that came with Komplete 9 work fine. I have to check if Kontakt5 is fully authorized thought. When I installed it I remembered seeing a dialog box refering to a problem authorizing Kontakt. But since it worked fined with all the NI libraries and thought it was ok. I will check tomorrow in the studio. thanks joni Guitarhacker I have Kontakt in the K-6 collection. I have not had any problem using kontakt in Sonar X1e or any of the MC series DAW's..... Hi bitflipper, That is a possibility. I have to check that and maybe uninstall all the previous versions too. Thank you for the hint. take care, joni

Hi Glyn, That is exactly what is happening to me. 15 minutes and they time out. I meant Komplete 9 (I have re-edited my post), sorry for the confusion. > Kontakt 5 will not run on your Komplete 5 license. This could be why Kontakt 5 is running in player mode. So do I have to buy a separate license for Kontakt5 ? > Edit - one other thought, in case I am mistaken in what I have written above, what happens when you run Kontakt as a stand alone. I have not tried Kontakt in standalone mode but I will tomorrow. Will let you knwo what happens. Thanks joni

It depends Djoni. Often third party instruments and libraries require authorization. Others don't. If it comes with a serial number it most likely needs Service Center to authorize it.

Im gonna say yes you will, because on my kontakt I have plugs from big fish audio and vir.2 and Others like that, and they all required authorization on service center. The only time I've ever experienced the demo issue is if i was messing with a library that hadn't been authorized, or if I was trying to load instruments designed for full version when I was still using kontakt player. I'm sure it's one or the other.

If you have Komplete 9 you will be entitled to run Kontakt 5 full version, its part of the package. My comments were based on the error in your initial post when you said Komplete 5. As you say that your own samples time out I think we can discount any issue with third party libraries needing to be authorized. I think its a "simple" matter of Kontakt running in "Player" mode. As long as you are sure Kontakt is licensed in Service Centre Bitflipper's suggestion that Sonar is pointing at the wrong DLL is something to check. If it all works OK in stand alone it will support that theory.

I too started with NI with their free Kore player. When I bought the K-6 collection I removed the free Kore player since it was redundant and was not as fully operational as Kontakt. It might still be in my laptop but it is not in the studio DAW.
