Boards of Canada new album

The hype surrounding this new album has been ridiculous. I mean really annoying hype that makes you think FFS. Teasers. Rumors. Events. Endless Facebook posts. People saying they're going nuts with anticipation.

Well now it's here (I think), and I just had a listen to the demo track on their website. Talk about "meh"......

It's OK, just your usual atmospheric electro, well produced, tasteful....but on the whole it's more of the same, nothing new, nothing special.

http://www.boardsofcanada.com/

I really really like some of their earlier stuff and love their analog sound, but man this is just like the hype surrounding the new Daft Punk album. Totally crazy.

Cue the inevitable "I've never heard of them!" replies......

I think Boards Of Canada is excellent but, I have to agree with the "meh's" of this thread. There's no new gun powder or a redesigned wheel here. It's good but it doesn't live up to the hype.

Having said that, managing to get such a hype is pretty good - probably cost a million - and is neccesary these days. As we know, the music doesn't speak for it self anymore. So kudos to them for being able to take advantage of the market.

Oh and for the record, I'll be buying this album. It is in fact really good if you're into this kind of thing

So it's not available yet?  This is just MORE hype then?  Hmm...

I think I could enjoy their stuff, we'll see!

I'm just going to wait for it to come out on Spotify. If its anything like their other albums it'll probably have a couple of really nice tracks and the rest "so-so." This kind of hype is crazy though. You should read some of the comments on their Facebook page in response to that track. "I'm literally crying as I'm listening to it" and "this is the finest music I have ever heard" etc. How do these people get sucked in so easily? Same thing with the new Daft Punk album. The single they released is a great chart hit, but it's hardly a monumental event.
