X2a Audio fx latency

Some of the basic 14 audio fx that come with x2 when inserted in a channel sound with a quite long delay, even if bypassed. They are: LP64 multiband64, LP64 eq64, perfect space, rMixSonar, TS63 transient shape. All the other (vocal strip, channel tools etc.) are OK, as all the old sonitus FX and the NI effects... Do somebody have the same problem? Any suggestion? thanks guvi sonar X2a, NI komplete9, HP w7-64, quad core intel Xeon, 8g ram, run as admin

I've had problems with Perfect Space before -- it's a convolution reverb, and uses a lot of processing.  It caused a LOT of glitches, including timing errors, when trying to use it live.  I have not had that issue with the other ones you mention, but have only used one or 2 of them.  The problem did not occur for me if I turned them off (not sure if that's what you mean by bypassing).  They work fine if setting the latency high (Edit -> Preferences -> Audio Driver Settings); if you're tracking, you'll want to turn them off -- at least Perfect Space -- as you'll need latency set lower.  Perfect Space is a tool for mixing but not tracking, I don't know about the other fx you mention.

hi Morgan. Yes, the latency of perfect space is the greater one, but also the others are quite long... By 'bypassing' I mean both, switching off the effect with its own button or with the button in the console view strip. To avoid latency I can only take away the fx from the fx bin. About the cpu usage, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that the LP64 multiband is more resource consuming than sonitus multiband. Perhaps the problem is just the 64 bit version (?) Thank you anyway! It's not always high COU usage with these plugs that is the culprit. A lot of them have a "Look Ahead" feature, a lot of limiters have this as well that's what causes your latency issue.

    Welcome to the forum Guido.

This is a pretty good list of the FX that require time processing (e.g., look ahead) that will always insert significant latency.  There are great effects, but can only be used effectively when mixing and mastering.  Add Boost 11 to your list.  They will cause problems while tracking (recording).

To make it easier to record, the 'E' key shortcut disables and enables plugins.  Another work-around is to freeze tracks with these effects while recording, but I have found that this does not work sometimes (E works).

Those particular effects are not intended for use in tracking (recording), you use them downstream, AFTER the initial tracking for mixing/mastering.

They use too much resource and/or have look-ahead processing, which makes them unusable (by design) for the initial recording of tracks.

The questions posed in this thread come up QUITE often, and I would like to see the Cakewalk folks make some sort of a sticky thread that indicates the intended use of these effects.  I believe that would save a lot of folks a lot of time and frustration.

thanks everybody, you was really helpful! happy to hear that my problem was not a real problem. In fact I'm not making music at this moment, but only experimenting this new sonar software (very heavy job...) ciao Guido
