Loops have limits.... but you can play around with them and experiment.
However, if you are looking for a backing band which is easier to use... I would suggest one or the other of the following.
SongSmith:
http://research.microsoft...nd/projects/songsmith/ or
Band in a Box:
http://www.pgmusic.com/bbwin.htm either will let you create easy to use backing tracks which conform exactly to your needs and the melody will fit. SS is less expensive....BB can be very expensive depending on the version.
I use BB in my music and as a writing tool.
the one loops based project I created:
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11450431 I think it might be possible to do what you want, the problem I see is that loops are in a specific key generally and in a specific genre. It would be very time consuming to use loops for example to do the style and genre of country music I write.... if not downright impossible. For that reason, I use a different tool to write my music.
Of course, there is always the old tried and true method of playing a real instrument and recording it too..... as I do in my music as well. Guitar and piano, as well as mandolin and some others...... and there are other people you can collaborate with across the internet as I also do who play things you may not play or own.
