Trouble getting MIDI'S to a synth
This problem just showed up, I insert a synth track, drag the MIDI to it and I get 1)no sound, 2) partial sound. I have had 0 problems with this until now. Ask me for whatever info and I will respond back. Pulling my hair out here.

Windows XP Pro, MC6, EMU1616pci, Roland SD50, Realtec HD Audio. I had been able to drag and drop the MIDI tracks to a Sound Studio or Studio Inst. Synth with no problems, now it is like the MIDI is not responding in the synth track. For example, MIDI drum track to a studio instrument drum kit will sound the first note then nothing else, I double click the drum kit in the kit window and it will play, restart the track and nothing, or the synth will play partial notes, like maybe a third of what is in the MIDI. I have never had a problem with this before yesterday. Have I tried everything I can think of to fix this and I'm a little confused as to what has happened.

Be sure the midi track output is going to the synth..... the kit will play when you click it but not play the midi you dropped into the track.... be sure the midi track is sending to the synth. output to input.... also check to see that you are using the EMU card and not the realtec. You want to be sure the EMU is the input and output for Music Creator. Partial notes are symptomatic of a factory sound card, as well as having the wrong driver selected and midi buffers that are too small. Any one or a combination thereof can cause that. Your rig is a good rig....XP and MC6.... similar to mine.....

Copy that. Your E-MU card will perform best using its native ASIO drivers. It really doesn't like to share. Disable the Realtec. You can insert a wave input strip in Patchmix for sound coming from Windows, YouTube, etc. Has your system been subjected to any recent events, such as Windows updates, power surges, lightning? Do you let your computer go into sleep mode, or do you power it down?

Gentlemen I appreciate the help, I have tried your suggestions, either it ain't going to work or I'm to dense to figure this out. This is what I have... The only way I get any audio sound is with my audio driver at MME32 bit and Realtec as the sound playback, mixing latency at 40.0 msec. I have always used the synth track as a simple instrument track. I have no idea how to get the EMU card to be the audio output. I can record my guitars and my vocals in using the dock input A. I have 6 tunes I have done with what I described with no problems, but now I can't get 1 midi track to drop to the synth. As far as I know I have had no issues with power surges, updates, and I always power off my computer. Please feel free to educate this idiot at your convenience. Thanks

What is "dock input A"? Do you, by chance, have a copy of ASIO4All lurking on your machine? If so, uninstall it. It will interfere with the native ASIO drivers for the E-MU. Do you have the most recent updates for Patchmix and E-MU ASIO drivers? The E-MU will not send audio to the speaker port on your computer. Your speakers must be connected to the outputs of the E-MU card. Have you done anything with Patchmix(the E-MU control interface)? It can be a bit tricky to set up, but it is vastly superior to the Realtec, and is worth the effort. Once you have it set up, you don't really need to mess with it.

Thank you for your input(s), I appreciate all the help I can get. First, the "dock input A", This unit has what EMU calls A MicroDock, it is a remote box that is connected to the card by a Network Interface cable, it has an A and B input on the front for connecting your microphone, guitar, ect, balanced or unbalanced, and a headphone jack. On the back is a series of various inputs and outputs including MIDI cables. I just went out to EMU's website and downloaded all the support downloads for this unit, which had a update for the applications and the driver. So we will try this again, the Patchmix is a bit of a nightmare but I did get it set up to allow me to put my vocals and guitars in, so maybe now I can configure some audio. I will be back here with more soon, Thanks again for your help.

wow... you just reminded me of something. When I first got into digital recording I bought an EMU card to use. What a freaking pain. It had patchmix with it and I literally had to call EMU every single time I set up a new project to have their support guys walk me through the patchmix setup...... I ended up yanking that EMU PCI card out and sold it cheap and fast on ebay and bought a different card that ended up being so much easier to use. The difference was like day and night. You might want to have a serious look at the EMU card and perhaps get something easier to use. I did, and never regretted losing that EMU.

I do have audio now, using the ASIO driver, I have a session saved just for the MC6. I will see if the synths work shortly. It is a bit of a hassle to set up the EMU, but not to bad yet. So, do I have to do this with everything I do? That will not cut it. What other suggestions for a card would you all have? I'm glad there is an EMU wizard here, RobertB, you da man!! Thank you all for your help, be back soon, count on it.

Focusrite is the brand of interface I use. Set it up one time in the software control panel for it.... inputs, outputs levels, DSP effects and never need to touch it again. M-Audio and Presonus as well as the Roland/Cakewalk interfaces are all good and used by many here. These are not the only ones, so if you look at something else be sure it uses ASIO drivers and please take the time to ask here before you buy. The store simply wants to make a sale, we, on the other hand don't care what you buy, but we can guide you away from the interfaces that are problematic in one way or another.

Now, I'm trying to record a bass part, MC6 is not giving me an option or choice of a recording device in the Audio device screen. My playback is set with the EMU setup I made, the Driver setting is ASIO. I have signal from my bass into the EMU, but nothing into MC6 or in the Patchmix. How do I set the recording device setting? Do I need another session set up in PatchMix or can I add an input strip to PatchMix? Tired and confused.

Press the P button to bring up Preferences and see what is listed for the Recording Device. If it's not the E-Mu, see if that can be selected. It should be, since when using ASIO you can only use one device at a time. Anyway, let us know what options are there.

Can you post a screenshot of your Patchmix? if possible, a screen shot of your Audio Devices in MC6 would also be good. Are you using the same input(s) you used for your guitar tracks? MC6 will only allow two audio inputs(one stereo pair). Because of the way ASIO handles the audio signal, MC6 may not recognize the A and B inputs at the same time.

I will try and get a shot of them. I did get the synths to take and now have them bounced to audio tracks, I have just the bass part to do for this tune I'm working on, I have signal to the EMU dock Input A, nothing from there to MC6 because I have no Recording Device available. See what I can do.

Ok, I need some opinions, Would I be better off with something like a Roland Quad-Capture Interface? What I am interested in doing is taking the MIDI's I use out live gigging, and turning them into CD's. I'm not a songwriter, I don't want to, or have the ability to, lay down multiple guitar tracks and what not. I just want to make the MIDI stuff I play sound good and lay down the vocals and the bass, with what guitar I can do. I need "keep it simple stupid" stuff. I had this working real good the way I had it, and now it's getting complicated. Help me boys!! I don't mean to be negative, I don't have the experience that you guy's do, and I'll be dead before I get even close. I have spent a lot of time picking my equipment and I think I have done pretty good. If I'm over my head with this EMU stuff then I need to go another direction. Tell me what you think.

That's what I hated about my EMU-0404 and patchmix. I never got to the point where I could understand it and work intuitively with it. The guys at EMU tech support practically knew the sound of my voice when I called. I finally got fed up and sold it. Got something easier to work with that didn't present a roadblock to my work process and creativity. I would suggest since RobertB is knowledgeable about EMU and patchmix, that you PM him and set up a phone call and let him walk you through it. Take your time and make notes.

So do you have a separate strip in Patchmix for every input of your interface? And in that strip you need to insert a send to SONAR/Host. There must be an output strip, Wave out, as well, but only one is needed (haven't played with it for a long time 'cause there's been no need to). Once you set it up you never need to go there again, unless for volume settings or such. Different sample rates/bit depths require their own sessions, IIRC.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I now have strips for both inputs on the EMU Dock I have a Recording Device in MC6, EMU line A or B I have signal to the Dock, No signal in the Patchmix or to MC6. I have tried different in's and out's, sends, and still no signal, except on the dock itself. The manual with EMU is written in a language I don't understand, I guess it's time for ???????????

I think that is the way to go Like Guitar hacker said..... It should not be that difficult.... Sorry cannot help in knowing anyone who wants that thing......But there is always eBay!!! maybe your best solution...... If you were going to want inexpensive sound card here my very first one was a Tascam 1-22 (I think that is the number) Now they are up to the 144 series.......I know a LOT of the guys here did not like them but it worked perfect for me!!!! I set it once and away I went..... I gave that unit to my nephew (who I do not think uses it) and I am really sorry I gave it to him.... Now I use a Edirol FA 101 that has ASIO and it runs really really well......so I think everyone here is trying to steer you in the correct direction..... Just my 2 cents Clifford
