Organising HD

Hi,
   I have 3 HD and 2 SSD drives.I want to use per project audio folders for my recording and storing.I also would like to when the project is done store them all as cwb.
Currently I have HD 1( 1.3 TB)  partitioned- O/S  (C) 390gb
                                                                          (F) 1TB FREE
                         HD2  (1.3 TB)         "                  (D) 500GB (417Free)       -NI Komplete 8 samples,camel sounds,pure rock and swartrax samples.
                                                        "                 (E)  900GB (838Free)                 -EWSO Woodwinds section,MOR Library
                         HD3  (1.3 TB)          "  Sonar X2 (G)  500GB (470Free)                 -EZ Drummer,Alchemy
                                                        "                 (H)  900GB (866FREE)                -Acid loops,EWSO Percussion,Guitar Waves
                         SSD 1                                                                                          -EWSO Strings
                         SSD 2                                                                                          -EWSO Brass
 
I currently have my Project Files located at E:\Cakewalk Projects -Is this correct.
 
Question 1) Where should I have my Wave files in the folder lacations pointed to for best effect?
Question 2 ) In the audio data of preferences section because I am using per-Project Audio folders ,what should the Global Audio Folder be set to.
                        I dont want to have any projects saved in Sonar X2 HD.Am I on the right track?
 
Question 3)If I originally have my projects saved i using per -Project.When the project is completed do I just save it as a cwb.If I do this will there still be a cwp version still present?
 
I dont think Ive got it quite correct.Any assistance will be appreciated.
  System- Win 7 64Bit
                 i7-2600K CPU @3.4 GHz,3401 MHz,4 core,8 logical processors, 32GB RAM
 
PS-My Plug-in layouts are i C:\

    Per-project audio should always be stored in a directory in the per-project project folder. For example a typical project would be stored in "E:\Cakewalk\Projects\My Typical Project. In My Typical Project would be the project file(s) for that project (i.e "My Typical Project.cwp" but there could be others like "My Typical Project-mix1.cwp", "My Typical Project-mix2.cwp", etc.) the autosaves, versions (do setup autosave and versioning in advanced project preferences) and Audio directory for the project audio. That is the default for per-project folders. The Global audio folder is typically on the application drive. I have taken to creating the "C:\Cakewalk Projects" as a junction to the toplevel directory where the per-project folders are created. In your case, I would create a junction with the following DOS command mklink /j "C:\Cakewalk Projects" "E:\Cakewalk Projects" I cannot see an advantage to using bundles, since all the data related to a project is stored in the per-project folder, you can simply zip up the folder for archiving. This is more reliable that bundling. One thing that will save space in the archive is to perform a "Save as" on the project (make sure the copy audio option is selected), saving the project to another location before zipping. The "Save as" will copy only the audio actually used in the project to the new location.

    Just to add to scook's excellent advice, saving as a Bundle isn't really recommended as they are known to have one or 2 bugs.

    This might not sound like a show stopper but if you encounter one of these then you run the real risk of losing EVERYTHING associated with that particular project.

    Saving as a cwp however offers you a little more protection in that if a project does become corrupt, you can still attempt to rebuild it from the audio clips which will be stored away safely in their own folder, and you also have the ability to open projects in safe mode to eliminate rogue plugins.

    Hi,
     Thanks for your reply.I am not confident with Dos commands.So this is what I intend to do from what I understand you saying.
         In the Preferences section Project Files will be saved in E:\Cakewalk Project 
         "    "      "                    "   of  Audio Data Global Audio Folder is changed from G:\ to E:\cakewalk Project\Audio Data
     I tick Use Per-Project Audio Folders Now when I go to File save the dialogue box indicates-copy all audio with project
                                 Project Path E:\Cakewalk Projects
                                 Audio Path   E:\ Cakewalk Projects\Audio.

    So do I now just use save  as normal   to  do as you say ("Per-project audio should always be stored in a directory in the per-project project folder")
     This would mean that all the information for a particular project will now be stored in E Drive right. So I can make a backup of this drive just in case of drive failure.

    Just to be clear how to use per-project folders. If I were to create/save Project1
    The project file name is Project1.cwp
    The project path is "E:\Cakewalk Projects\Project 1"
    The audio path is "E:\Cakewalk Projects\Project 1\Audio"
    This allows you to copy/backup individual projects easily.
    When done with Project1, do a "Save as" to "E:\Archive" This will create a clean copy of Project1 in "E:\Archive\Project1". The Project1 in E:\Archive is then ready to zip and archive offline. You can then safely delete "E:\Cakewalk Projects\Project1" and "E:\Archive\Project1".
