Hello--

This post might get moved to the software forum--FYI.

I don't have kontakt 5, but I have kontakt 4 and kontakt 5 player. The samplers themselves don't use a lot of system resources, but the instruments you load in them might. I have kontakt 5 player for use of Abbey Road Modern Drummer which is a RAM hog (it even has a feature for unloading instruments you don't need to free up RAM). Although my computer is no where close to state-of-the-art, it is more powerful than yours, and if I have a project with many tracks, I may have to freeze a Modern Drummer track so I don't get clicks and pops from how much of my system resources are being used.

So, working with what you have here are some suggestions in ascending order.

1) Freeze one of your kontakt 5 tracks while you edit the other. When you finish your edits, freeze them both. If you are happy with them, bounce them down to an audio track and archive the kontakt tracks.
2) Put both instruments in one instance of kontakt. Just assign them different MIDI channels and you'll be fine. Someone did a test and found that although the difference is slight, one instance of kontakt uses less resources than two.
3) Get a better computer. That's what I did and I will need to get a better one still next year just to keep up. Look into going 64-bit. If you run a 64-bit operating system it can use more RAM and that means instruments in kontakt have more RAM too.

It is an ongoing expense to be a musician--you will be upgrading, adding to and replacing gear for the rest of your musical life.

Good luck!

Thanks Razor for taking time to listen to me..... Freezing the tracks is a good way to same memory nd use 2 or more instances of kontakt 5. But how can I load multiple instruments in a single instance of kontakt......

I've seen many posts relating to my present question but it did not help me. I did what it said (as u said too) to assign different midi channels but it just did not work. I do not have a midi controller but i use piano roll to input notes of the related instrument. Is it possible to use only the piano roll instead of a midi controller hardware to use multiple instances of kontakt inst. in one instance of kontakt 5 ?

If yes, then please give me a detailed step by step instruction..........
Please guys, really need to know......

You must study the Kontakt manual. I think it's quite well written. All you need is set the instruments on different MIDI tracks.
Also do the SONAR  tutorials about using soft synths.
You need to do some homework. It's useless to start copy pasting the manuals here. When there's a specific problem, something in the manuals that you don't understand, you'll surely get help here.

Two instances of Kontakt 5 can really be a lot for your PC if you use instruments that occupy RAM. 160 Gb of HDD space is not much either. Kontakts sample libraries, Operating system (WIN7?) and SONAR alone take nearly half of it . Keep an eye on the available HDD space, to avoid getting in troubles. A HDD should have 10-20% free space at all times in order to work properly, so your "safe HDD size" is about 140 Gb. It would be ideal to have the projects and their audio (use Per Project Audio folders) and sample libraries on a separate HDD.

Whether you use a controller or Piano Roll is irrelevant. It does not affect the use of soft synths themselves.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Yeah, my experience with using the piano roll only for creating a MIDI track is pretty much zero. I know on my MIDI controller I assign which MIDI track to send and then the instrument in kontakt assigned to that MIDI channel is the only one that plays/records.

Convert it to a wav before importing. Some mp3's have non-audio data in the header that SONAR cannot handle. BTW, you should be posting in the X1/X2 forum. This forum is for older versions of SONAR.
