How long should I keep older version?

I just upgraded to X2 and was wondering how long I should wait before deleting X1?
Or do I not delete it because I need to keep them both?

Not really a big deal either way...Just looking to free up some space on my HD.

Thanks

Hard drives are pretty cheap and simple to replace with a little know how. If you really want it gone the downloads should remain in your account if you ever need them but I burned some discs with the install files so I wouldn't have to download again. You could also store them on on an external drive. It's still nice to have X1 installed if I need it though but I haven't touched it since I upgraded.

BTW the actual program files for Sonar are pretty small and don't take up a lot of space. It's all the extra content that takes up storage but that should go on a separate drive(s) anyway.

If all your old projects seem to run fine in X2, I would not keep X1 too long, especially if you have redundant installs ofvthings like Dimension Pro that can eat up a lot of HD space. The other thing I would watch when uninstalling (especially if you still have older versions like 8.5 or if you are going from 32 bit to 64 bit) is checking that any plugin you like that is no longer included is accounted for. A common plugin that falls in this category is Pantheon reverb

You'd lose Guitar Rig as well (edit: You MAY lose it but now I'm remembering that might remain if you installed and registered it correctly). You can do a custom install of X1 to extract any missing plugins without having to install the entire program.

Hey Beepster.  Very true.  I just didn't know if there was any advantage to keeping it on there.
I like your idea with backing it up to a disc though.  And, like you, I am sure I would never need to touch it either.

I already backed up all of the files for X2 as it is...so if I actually DID have a problem I would reach for that before X1.

    Thanks

Right on, Mojo. You're gonna love X2 but you might want to keep X1 installed because there is a lot of changes and still a few bugs depending on what type of work you are doing. You may want to make a slow transition as you learn about lanes and the new ways of comping. So a real simple answer to your initial question... I'd say give it a month or so before you uninstall X1. Also remember that if you use any of the new features or gizmos in X2 those elements may not open correctly in X1. If you do not use those features then the project should open fine in X1. Cheers.
