No audio on playback

Hello, I am new to using a DAW and have Sonar X2 Studio. I have been able to get audio in to record, but no luck hearing anything on playback. I am using a Zoom R8 as an interface, and a Lenovo laptop, Windows 8.

Thanks to all who may reply.

I do not know a thing about that interface, but per your description you may not have the audio outputs routed correctly.

Did you year the audio input through Sonar while recording?

In Preferences, do you have the Zoom set as the Record AND Playback device?
On the track you recorded to what is selected as the output?
Do you have monitors hooked up to the Zoom or are you using headphones?
Do you happen to have any plug-ins or FX inserted or is it just a dry track?
Do you see a waveform on the track?
If you drag and drop a drum loop onto a track can you hear that play?

I'm just trying to see what your signal chain and routing options are and throwing a few things out there so we can have a starting point to work from.

For anyone wondering, this is the Zoom R8

I'd set the record track output to your master buss (in Sonar) and then set the master buss to the zoom's main outs.

If you do that, do you see meter movement on the master buss? It sounds like a routing issue but without being there it's hard to diagnose via a forum.

Have you ever played anything back from Sonar using it or is it just one project?

Thanks for all replies. I have figured out the routing, I think. So far I can record into and playback from sonar.
Using the USB 3.0 on my laptop allowed Sonar to connect to the Zoom. Also learning how to manipulate the track view showed me where to set input and output.
