My adventures with a dead Rottweiler
I'm not sure if I'm the only one who winds up in these situations that would qualify me for a reality show. A few days ago I decided to load up our two person Kayak and head to a local lake for a nice mini excursion with my wife. We arrived at the lake and were putting in when a one legged woman with a few kids hopped up to us and asked us if our boat would carry a "small" dog. Apparently her boyfriend was on the other side of the lake and their dog had become winded and unable to make it back. The boyfriend was on the other side of the lake waving at us. My wife thought it might have been some kind of a setup. I said we could only carry a small dog on our kayak and we paddled over to her boyfriend on the other side who said the dog was "just around the corner". In this case "just around the corner" was all the way around the other side of the lake. When we finally arrived I discovered that the dog was a 125 pound Rottweiler. When I beached the boat and headed to the dog I could see from a distance that this dog was gone. His legs were sticking straight up and there were flies gathering. The dog was only 5 years old, so it either had a bad heart or was bitten by a snake?? At any rate the poor pooch was dead:( We carried the dog over to my boat and I decided to take the boyfriend and the dog over and come back for my wife who would wait safely on the shore until I returned. So my wife has pics of me in front paddling with a stiff Rottweiler across the middle and the boyfriend in the second seat with his legs over the dog. It was an interesting trip back to the dock with the dog and greeting the other boaters along the way. " Hey there how ya doin ?" They looked a little longer than usual.... I did feel bad for the loss of the animal. I was glad to help out. As I understood it later the Rottweiler was part of a custody deal. I didn't know the courts included dogs in the visitation agreement. I would hate to be the one explaining what happened to the other party who normally kept the animal. So I got quite a work out a few days ago. Paddled the lake a total of 4 times once by myself and once with a large dog on the boat which only has a 450 lbs weight limit. I'm not sure what happened after that but we loaded the dog and they went away with it.

So, you left your wife alone on an island with deadly snake... Do you have Wi-Fi in your dog house, too?

You making this up? I'll bet that ride back with the dog, legs sticking up and flies buzzing was lots of fun when the wind hit you just right....

Really happened...honest. I made sure my wife was standing in a safe place when I left her ;) My wife insisted that she not be left alone with the stranger. I would never do that anyway...and I knew she would be less than thrilled to ride back with a dead dog in her lap. She probably waited over an hour for me to get back. Herb, the dog wasn't dead long enough for the flies to be very bad. I was very glad to be in the fore section instead of the aft though ;P Craig, I was curious how a young woman could have lost a leg...one of those things best left unanswered or asked I guess. UB, I don't know that song but it seems like it could have been appropriate;)

Could very well be...the dog walker/runner said the dog was barking at something in the weeds and excited before it died. That led me to think possibly a poisonous snake bite. There was a recent biting in the womens' room at that same place by a copperhead.

LOL! I don't think it was the snake that was bitten! It got away. It was in the "loo" as you call it.

I got it, Karyn. You're suggesting the woman's leg was poisoned, thereby killing the dog when he ate it, right ?

I think I've got it. You take the chicken across first, leaving the rottweiler and grain together on the other side.
You return and get the rottweiler, but when you deposit him on the other side, you take the chicken back across, so that the rottweiler and chicken aren't left alone together.
You drop the chicken off back on the other side, pick up the grain, and take it across to deposit with the rottweiler.
Finally, you return to retrieve the chicken and take it to the other side.

Yeah... errr.. something like that. But if you just left them alone, the chicken would eat the grain, the rottweiler would get fat on the chicken and wonder into the road where it gets run over. So you got rid of all of them without ever having to cross the road yourself..

Why did the chicken cross the road? 'Cause the rottweiler did.

I think that is the Rottweller or the chicken? The leg was just the stimulus for the situation.

The leg is the imortant thing here, take that away and the whole lot falls down.

Even more imortant, take away the other one and that poor woman wouldn't have a leg to stand on! (What does Paul McCartney's ex-wife want with a dead dog anyway???)
