Corner Bakery

They are on my ignore list since they took their Reuben sandwich off the menu. Best Reuben around and they go and kill it. Ugh. Have to find a new source for my sauerkraut and corn beef fix....bad lunch day.

Gear: A bunch of stuff.

I don't know if they'll suit you, but both of these places have Reubens.

I suppose you already know about Gandolfo's.

I can't offer any opinions, as I haven't had many Reubens.  I'm just offering places I know that have the sandwich.

I miss a few So. Cal. restaurants that aren't up here.  Among the chain types, I miss Boston Market, Fatburger and Bob's Big Boy...  Of the better places, I miss Houston's (I used to get prime rib with key-lime pie for dessert all the time - since I was going out with a very cute waitress that worked there, I was there a LOT) and Bobbie McGee's (was going out with a waitress there too at one time - I think there's a trend here...).  I'm sure there are others, but I just can't remember some of their names!  What was that 50's diner near Chevy's on the Irvine Lake?  Ruby's?

Ruby's and yes, Houston is a fave here as well. Their grilled trout is to die for.

Ruben's are great. I make my own. I found a great source to buy my Armour sliced corned beef for only $4.99 a pound. Aldi's for sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, Wishbone 1000 Island dressing, and hearty rye bread from Schwebel's bakery.

You're welcome, Middleman.  A friend of mine had good Reuben at a place called Dublin4.  It's on Oso Pkwy. just east of I-5.  It's associated with Wineworks which is next door.  I couldn't find the sandwich on the on-line menu, but I believe it was on the printed version.  In general, D4 is on the pricey side--but everything I've tasted has been great.

We make a tofu Ruben here at Casa von MQ.

If you use great sauerkraut and a nice swiss cheese it sort of distracts us from the fact that we can't buy a good loaf of rye bread in our area.

    I'm still voting for Canters.

I used to get a great Reuben at a bagel place in Livingston, NJ ... not so much here in Minnesota.
