Si Soft for dummies

I got curious and downloaded the free lite version of SiSoft.

I like the things I like about it, but I found installing it seemed confusing.

My system is offline and it seems like Sisoft expects that you are online.

It tried to install a "Bing Bar"... geez, charge me $5 and let me skip that... please. :-)

It also seems preoccupied with shopping, pricing, bench marking to a budget, and real time news feeds... uh, I use Chrome for that. ;-)

The thing that really threw me for a loop was the question about restarting and the graphics processor choices stuff. I checked "ok".

???

I got a feeling I'm going to use a disk image restore and make the SiSoft go away.

Is there any actual reason for me to use it after I turned off all those seemingly silly features?

I have a mild fascination with watching my DPC latenecy flutter between 2uSec and 30uSec on a constant rhythmic basis. back and forth, back and forth. It doesn't do that on my old/current DAW, which just sits at 3uSec for the most part but does spike to 30 ever now and then.

I had this fantasy that some tool in SiSoft might let me see what driver is using the 30uSec. I don't know why, but it seems so regular and distinct that I thought I might figure it out and maybe get a better driver or an alternative peripheral.

I'm letting a general purpose test run and I'm curious to see what info I can learn from it.

Right now I feel like my curiosity just led me to waste a few more hours... and dodging all the opt outs choices seemed to emphasize how this app may be for someone with different interest than mine.

If anyone can put this in perspective for me I'll be appreciative.

Thank You!

all the best,
mike

Ok, so I ran the general purpose test.

It seems preoccupied with comparing the build I have here with some, for lack of a better word, "other" build.

I see a Red box with my system stats and Blue box with my system stats... ?

I don't really know how it could or would tell me the sort of info I am curious about... and as I predicted in a previous thread... the info I am seeing seems more useful to someone with a workbench covered with various builds rather than a guy like me who wants to get a single system going by scrutinizing details on that specific system.

I know I am over thinking this... but this is my window to learn. Once I get this new DAW running in my studio I'm going to run it with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" style of management. I want to play in the "sandbox" a bit now and then get to work on music and never look back.

With my needs/interest in mind... Is there anything in SiSoft I should be learning more about?

    Thank you!

    best regards,
    mike

it compares your numbers with systems on file they have (both your processor etc and different ones)
also give you  a huge amount of info

    Thanks Scott,
I'm letting it burn in just to see what sort of results it gets.

I thought it was sort of fascinating to see all the my USB ports and stuff... but then I came to realize it was a lot of info but it didn't give me any insights into what I might change.

For example, it found the USB hub and card reader built in to my Dell brand display monitor, but it didn't really give me a way to see how/when it gets polled. That is one of the peripherals that I let PNP into Windows that I could live without if I came to learn that it is the device causing the very small but very regular burst I am seeing.

If I look hard enough, am I going to find any tools that let you see things like that?

     best regards,
    mike
