patches change but banks do not

OK i had to buiild my own instrument definition for my Yamaha MO6 and it works beautifully but now i also have a MOX 6 which uses the Motif XS instrument definition but i am having trouble getting Sonar 8.5 to change banks.  No matter what bank i choose for it, it always picks patches out of Bank # Pre 1.  Since the MOX has 8 preset banks, 3 user banks and others it would be nice to be able to access them all from within Sonar and i know it is possible.  Can someone point me to where i am going wrong?
