iZotrope Trash 2 or Ohmforce Ohmicide ?
There is a sale on for izotrope Trash 2 almost everywhere for $118 or $119 depending on where you shop. I have Trash 2 and Ohmicide on my wish list of distortion plugins but - which do people prefer for distortion plugins? maybe best is to have both but if I can only buy 1 right now which would be best to start with......or is then another alternative that I am unaware of? any helpful advice? Thanks.

I didn't know about FabFilter Saturn until now. I checked the demo vid and read some online reviews. it sounds a bit clean for a distortion plugin, maybe not the right word. seems easy to use, the interface is straightforward enough. I'll consider it but right now $164 is a bit much. interested in trash 2 or Ohmicide as they are on deep sale prices right now.

Ohmicide - hands down the best distortion out there! Its creative posibillities are insane, and it's great for subtle to extreme distortion and everything in between. I abuse it on as much as I can. Had a play with Thrash 2 and to me it doesn't come close to Ohmicide. I own Saturn. Saturn is great but not as fun and flexible as Ohmicide. With the MIDI control on Ohmicide you can do some pretty wacky stuff

I prefer Trash 2 for usability, but Ohmicide for sound. Another option to check out is FXpansion Maul - best of both worlds IMO.

Maul doesn't seem to get much love or reviews out there. only available from FXpanson's web site. I think I've still boiled it down to Trash 2 and Ohmicide. thinking about getting Camel Phat 3 and Camel Space which seem to have some decent distortion although not the main focus of those plugins. so many plugins so little time or money.

Camel Space is really cool but it is not a distortion plugin. It's a plugin for really weird stuff so if you're after a distortion effect, don't get the Camel Space - it's a trance gate with aswesome options The Camel Phat has a distortion module but if you're after serious distortion, this is not for you. The Camel Phat distortion module is nice but is only built in for a bit of coloring, not serious distortion. Having said that, get the plugs, by all means, I love them both and use them a lot and I couldn't do without them these days. However, if you buy them for the distortion, you'll be very disapointed

Actually, you should download this http://www.camelaudio.com/camelcrusher.php It's free and based on the Camel Phat. It'll give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from the Phat and it is a highly usable plugin in itself

ProjectM Ohmicide - hands down the best distortion out there!
I haven't paid much attention to Ohmforce in the past. I get the sense that these guys don't do sales or group buys much if at all. Am I correct in that speculation?

I recall a sale around December of last year at their site. I went check it out and the site triggering my virus scanner. Even though I suspected it was a false report I decided not to bother with it. Ended up with Trash 2 and Saturn.

Ohmnicide is sold as a electronic delivery at Audiodeluxe.com they are having a summer discount sale to existing users with discount of $15 off Ohmnicide when logged in and added to cart. Ohm Force website sells it for $130 USD and I can get it from Audiodeluxe.com for $118 USD and no exchange rate fee from my bank.

ProjectM - I hear what your saying about the Camel Audio plugins. not specifically distortion but on my radar as useful tools to have in the toolbox.

Yeah, I'd say get the Camel Audio plugs as well! LOL - I have so much fun with Camel Space and it has saved my rear more often than I'd like to admit. But get the Camelcrusher as well. It's extremely handy for messing up a sound. I love it for bass and vocals. And for the price, well worth the investment

Before I got Saturn, CamelCrusher was my go-to distortion for bass. I used it on almost every bass track, either lightly to add a little presence or more aggressively for a harder sound similar to miking a bass cabinet. Saturn, though, is the ultimate bass enhancer because you can control not only the type and degree of distortion for multiple bands, but also limit or expand the dynamics for each band. And then there's the modulation options...careful, you can fall down the rabbit hole here... which can transform mundane bass parts into incredibly punchy bass parts - use with care. I'd hoped Saturn would be the ultimate do-it-all distortion tool, but the only thing other than bass that I use it for is vocals. It's great for all styles of vocals. But as a guitar amp sim or drum dirty-up-er, there are better alternatives (D16 Group's Redopter gets a lot of use here on snares and toms). For full-mix saturation effects I still prefer Ozone.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I think I am getting Trash 2 this week. two main reasons are that there is a Groove3 tutorial and it's on deep sale right now. next will be Ohmnicide I think as I just keep hearing great things about it. The Camel Audio Phat and Space will be added when I can get some money. creative toyes are always a welcome. I think for me right now just getting into effects and watching prices that Saturn will go on the Dream Wish list. That is a lot of toyes to learn to use and master. Will be enough for some time. Easy for me to plunge and just buy a bunch of stuff that collects dust and never gets used or learned. I am discovering that taking the time, asking around and doing research pays off big time to the wallet and my brain. thanks for all the input - really appricate the feedback and assist. :)
