What MIDI interface? Is it listed in Windows-Device Manager? What do you have selected in Preferences-MIDI Devices? Computer specs, soundcard, etc.??? Need more info.

hello, I checked my midi devices and my soundcard (E-MU 0404 USB) is there. I can see the signal reaching the sound card. My windows device manager shows keyboard installed and correct.... I have a Lenovo intel core i5 4gb ram. I have done projects on this setup. Now i can't even get the midi keyboard to be recognized.

Verify the MIDI device is selected in SONAR Edit > Preferences > MIDI > Devices and the MIDI track input is assigned a value

Make sure input echo for the track is on,you won't hear or see any signal at the track without it.

You mean your MIDI keyboard is not displayed in Preferences > MIDI > Device? Maybe I don't understand the definition of a MIDI keyboard, but is the keyboard connected to your soundcard via a MIDI cable or is it connected directly to your PC via a USB cable?

You're right, my soundcard is where my midi goes through....and it does show up in devices. still can't get it to play. Is this a problem with X2 by any chance?

I do not know what you mean by an X2 problem? There is a problem somewhere. MIDI does not take a lot of configuration to get going. Support is a free call. Sometimes these issues can be resolved faster with a phone call. It should not be this difficult.

OK, but is the MIDI track showing that its receiving MIDI data? Try recording something. If the MIDI track is not showing that its receiving MIDI data, then the problem is with the Emu0404 or your USB connection. Try unplugging and replugging the USB cable. If you are loading Dimension or Rapture, make sure you also load a patch because the default is no patch and nothing will play. Try it with the TTS-1, that's usually pretty straightforward.

Midi track is not receiving data...tried recording....did the unplugging ritual and no help. I don't think the windows device manager recognizes soundcard (for some strange reason because i've been using it for a month). I'm at work now but will try loading rapture or TTS-1 when i get back home Thanks

Unplug the USB cable and replug it. Sometimes USB devices get lost and you have to replug them. Make sure you plug it into the same USB port.

Hi, Just for clarity. Can you tell me what kind of keyboard it is. Also I think you said that the keyboard cable (assuming midi) is plugged into the sound card. In the older creative cards you could plug into thier midi port and then use them via as the controller. Is this similar to your setup? If so there is an icon that looks like maybe a picture of keyboard keys with two red light (if windows 7 or xp) this will show in systray. See if those lights display when you press keys on the keyboard. If so check check your settings for the midi track. Also, did you say that in Device Manager you see the keyboard. As this would be odd if using the soundcard for midi transmission. If in device manager as a sound device (midi) then it should be in Sonar as a choice too. Please let us know if the cable from the controller is a midi cable or usb. Thanks.

- What keyboard are you using?
- Double-check and make sure MIDI OUT of the keyboard goes to MIDI IN on your interface.
- Does your keyboard have a setting that will disable MIDI output? (Some do...)
- Try swapping out USB and MIDI cables (one at a time)
- Try a powered USB hub between your interface and computer ~ there's a chance the USB port on your computer isn't delivering enough current to power everything when the interface is being used for MIDI (it's happened...)
- Forget SONAR for a minute - run a free MIDI utility like MIDI-OX, set it to monitor the MIDI interface, play your keyboard, and see if MIDI data is actually going from your keyboard to the interface. (Eventually, you'll want MIDI-OX anyway if you're doing anything with MIDI on a Windows PC; it is incredibly handy to have around!!)
- Just noticed you're using Windows 8 ~ are you using Windows 8-specific drivers? That alone could make a BIG difference!!
- Any other updates to your system or sound card recently? Is not unheard of for updates to actually break what they were intended to fix...

I looked through the whole thread and you never mention what keyboard you have. We must have that info to go any further. Do you have the MIDI OUT on the keyboard plugged into the MIDI in on the Emu0404. Not the audio output (line out), but the MIDI ouput. The Emu0404 cannot convert audio signals to MIDI data. Its two completely different types of signals.

I am at a loss. All I know for sure is: 1. Midi signal is definitely making it to E MU soundcard. 2. No signal in Sonar from midi. I have combed this thread and tried everything. Maybe it's my Lenovo computer?
