Changing midi channels on all notes at once?

I was importing some old MIDI tracks into Sonar X2.  One of the tracks contains many notes all on Channel 15.  I want to change them all to Channel 1.  I used to know how to do this in previous versions of Sonar but I can't seem to do it in X2.   Can anyone help me change ALL notes on that track at the same time?

Thanks

Joe

Use the event inspector in the control bar. Select the clip and change channel number.

While Event Inspector is the fastest way, I noticed it doesn't work on some (or any?) of non-musical data in the clip. When I couldn't change the MIDI channel of pitch bend data or modulation data using the Event Inspector, I instead used the Find/Change feature and it worked beautifully.

Another thing to remember is if you merge MIDI clips (by Bounce To Clip), the MIDI channel of all data in the clips get automatically changed to match the MIDI channel number selected in the pull-down of the track strip.

There is one small quirk, or bug with the Event Inspector, at least on my system, and this has persisted throughout the X series.
When attempting to set a range of velocities to the same number, eg 100, if the first note in your range is already set to 100, it won't work.
I don't know if this behaviour extends to other EI events, such as Note Number, Midi channel etc, but it might be worth experimeting with

I don't see a channel field in the Track/Clip Inspector...

Not just on your system, Jonesey. And it's the same for Midi channel (strangely, Note number seems to behave differently -- if you enter the same note as the one already shown in the field, it does change the note numbers of all selected notes to the same number). I don't know if this started from X1, though (I vaguely remember it was already there in version 2, I could be wrong).

As for the modulation and pitch bend data (and maybe other non-musical data, too), I tested again and Event Inspector fails to change their MIDI channels. So, Process > Find/Change > select ALL and click OK > change the MAX value under All Non-Special Events to 1 (if you want to change all MIDI channels to 1) > OK would probably be best if you want to change the MIDI channels of all data in the clip.

That's what I was thinking. If it's set to a channel other than none, doesn't that override any channel data in the track?

If you're recording just notes (incl. velocity), there's no problem. But if you're also recording controller data, you certainly don't want to see two pitch bend layers (Ch.1 & Ch.5 for example), two modulation layers, etc. at the bottom of PRV after you merged some of clips in the track.
